As a result, neo-liberalism is agreeing with neo-realism through various practices and institutions that are developed on the international level. In many cases, their contrasting functions are to enforce and support different standards that have been agreed to. However, they will also support specific policies and ideas that are embraced by the largest nation states. Inside the international structure, are major differences between the tactics utilized by the various non-governmental entities and their overall role in addressing critical challenges (i.e. The UN and the IMF). However, despite these views there are significant areas of disagreement. This is taking place in the area of neo-realism. In these kinds of situations, the different institutions are providing a framework for establishing various procedures and policies. In these kinds of situations, nation states will follow the ideas of neo-liberalism when it is in their own best interests. Yet, they will deviate from these polices when it is going directly against their larger objectives. In these cases, they will break their agreements or use these institutions to enforce their standards upon other states. These areas of disagreement will lead to conflicts about how international law is applied and the way these entities are utilized. This can create situations where everyone will think that they are serving the interests of powerful countries at the expense of weaker ones.
