Nurse practitioners play a crucial role in the modern healthcare system given their responsibilities in administering patient care. One of the critical components in the delivery of healthcare services in the modern healthcare setting is collaboration between different stakeholders. Modern healthcare environments and settings are characterized by the establishment of a multidisciplinary team that provides patient care. Consequently, nurse practitioners are required to collaborate with others, particularly physicians in their respective roles in the care delivery process. Stewart & DeNisco (2019) states that collaboration among healthcare providers or clinicians is based on shared goals and decision making, mutual relationships, and use of collective knowledge of all stakeholders involved in the care process.
Collaboration with physicians has tremendous impacts on the practice and job satisfaction for nurse practitioners. The collaboration changes the practice of nurse practitioners by shifting their focus to patient-care, holistic care. When collaborating with physicians, nurse practitioners help streamline patient care processes. The collaboration provides the premise with which nurse practitioners involve patients in the decision making process while providing them with necessary tools for managing their conditions (Stewart & DeNisco, 2019).
Since collaboration enables nurse practitioners to streamline patient care, it contributes toward improved job satisfaction. The improved job satisfaction is attributable to the fact that the streamlined patient care contributes to better patient outcomes. Nurse practitioners are among clinicians who experience increased job satisfaction based on collegial relationships brought by collaboration with physicians. Additionally, nurse practitioners experience increased job satisfaction since the collaboration enables them to function effectively in their respective roles in the care delivery process.
Preparing for the Professional Employment Interview Process
As part of their process to secure employment, nurse practitioners need to undergo and pass a professional employment interview. Stewart & DeNisco (2019) state that one of the major challenges facing nurse practitioners when preparing for a professional employment interview process is consolidating huge amounts of information. This implies that nurse practitioners need to approach the professional employment interview process with caution and adequate preparation. The first step for a nurse practitioner to prepare for the professional employment interview process is to conduct adequate research ahead of time. Adequate research enables the nurse practitioner to have sufficient information regarding the healthcare environment where he/she is to employed and his/her respective roles and responsibilities.
Secondly, the nurse practitioner should understand the purpose of the interview by gathering information to determine whether he/she is the appropriate candidate for the job. During this process, the nurse practitioner should review the interview agenda and research his/her connections. The next step in the preparation process is to know personal qualifications and how they fit the job since effectiveness in NP role requires alignment of qualifications with scope of practice (Dillon & Hoyson, 2014). The nurse practitioner should thoroughly read the job descriptions and identify areas where his/her skills and qualifications match what is required. Once the nurse practitioner has reviewed his/her qualifications, he should read and examine the different interview styles that are likely to be used by the interviewers. This enables him/her to become familiar with different ways of answering different types of questions. When examining the different interview styles, the nurse practitioner should practice answering the interview questions in different ways. Through this process, the nurse practitioners becomes better prepared for the interview environment and the different interview techniques.
