Old and Young Alike, Holding Tremendous Excitement

Last reviewed: May 15, 2002 ~4 min read

¶ … Old and young alike, holding tremendous excitement and thrill in its essence. I for one feel that Disneyland has been the most popular business ever since. Cartoon characters created by Disney are known all over the world. With tourist rate more than any other park around the world, Disneyland provides amusement and festivity beyond expectations. Disneyland have higher attendance than their competitors thus proving to be one of the biggest American achievements.

Entertainment like Disneyland was not active and no one was much aware of this bustling entertainment coming in town, which along with it's colorful rides and well kept parks, brought various opportunities of business and exchange.

1]"Disneyland functions as an 'imaginary effect' concealing that reality no more exists outside than inside the bounds of the artificial perimeter" (Fjellman, 1992: 301). [1]

Why it would be exciting being involved with Disneyland is its everlasting activity and amusing atmosphere that it inherits from the first day it was born. Now that Disney Land has lost its attendance exorbitantly, new ideas of attracting the masses has become an absolute compulsion, making the business even more entertaining for the employees at Disneyland.

Therefore if I were given an opportunity to contribute my share in any business, it would be the gladdening world of Disneyland. This is because of the spirited ambience that it offers. The company keep those who work for it involved, yet giving a large percentage of the appreciation from customers to the employee; to let his/her imagination free, to try different levels of safe amusement creations and grow internally as well as externally.

In my opinion, what needs to be done is to change the business strategy and add something with a difference to magnetize and entice the masses. This approach may not be very cumbersome since Disneyland has already sealed its niche market for itself.

2] Eisenberg and Goodall suggested that Disney theme parks, as well as Epcot Center, can be viewed as hyperrealities, "places where the image of having fun is consumed through a commodity purchase" (1993: 177) [2]

Another possible technique of gaining attention could be revitalizing the theme park, not ignoring to publicize and announce of the modifications, so as to create awareness. The capital for reviving such a big project would have to be huge, therefore, the changes should be able to return the investment as well as result in profit. Capital can be accumulated with the assistance of sponsors and the U.S. government public entertainment officials. Unlike other businesses, Disney has its own range of amusement, which is also very captivating and develops interest of those who do it. Even though it is a hard job, yet when the work is completed the worker feels a sense of joy yet providing the contributor with satisfaction when people appreciate and gain gratification from his work.

Besides this, it seems to me that the working environment which Disney offers is incomparable to any other business. Its employee-training program is dynamic, showing respect for employee participation. The employee-management relationship is very natural and pleasant thus encouraging new comers to contribute and build their ideas for making Disneyland what it deserves to be.
