Operations & Quality management

First Student

As a the head of quality in the organization that I have just been newly appointed to, I would take keen consideration of the three people who are inclined towards the three major philosophers of quality management namely Deming, Juran and Crosby and after that, my best consideration would be on the Deming student.

This is a person who believes in the fourteen tenets of quality management as fronted by Deming as Create constancy of purpose towards improvement, Adopt the new philosophy, Cease dependence on inspection, Move towards a single supplier for any one item, Improve constantly and forever, Institute training on the job, Institute leadership, Drive out fear, Break down barriers between departments, Eliminate slogans, Eliminate management by objectives, Remove barriers to pride of workmanship, Institute education and self-improvement and the transformation is everyone's job (Phil Cohen, 2012).

The above tenets are directed towards inclusivity and continuous process within the organization. This aspect of continuity enhances the chances of innovation by the suppliers, resulting in high quality and peculiar goods for the company. It also develops the financial standing of the company as Deming focuses on the long-term business ventures that are usually more sustainable and profitable over a longer period than the short-term (Value-Based management, 2011).

The disciple of Deming will also be a reliable person as he believes in consistency or retaining a single supplier so as to avoid variation in the products. If there is a defect therefore on a product, Deming indicates that there is room to continually improve an item and forever do so. This will ensure that the company not only produces quality items but also keeps surprising our clients with new innovative products that are improvements of the previous one hence keeping in pace with the latest developments and the new trends. This is an attribute that is central in the quality management that is focused on enhancing the position of the company in the market and among the competitors (David Wayne, 2012).

Deming also advocated for the reduction in the formalities of paperwork and simplification of accounting to make work seamless and avoid many slogans in the process of management. The elimination of many bureaucracies and obstacles will mean work will be done more efficiently and in consultative manner hence making better quality in the company.

The Deming disciple will also encourage a more consultative and dynamic type of management since he will not have a firm belief in management by objectives. The setting of the objectives can only work towards hindering exhaustion of highest possible capabilities of the employees. Once the employee meets the set objectives, they can relax and have a set mind that all that needed to be done has been done.

As a measure towards quality management in an organization, there is need to look into the best way to influence the employees towards participating in the improvement of the quality of the service and goods in general. Bearing this in mind, the Juran methodology is the most applicable one well and above the Deming and Crosby.
