Organizational Behavior
What is Organizational Behavior?
The foundations of organizational behavior are predicated on the best practices from the fields of psychology, social psychology, sociology and anthropology. This multifaceted nature of organizational behavior is deliberately designed and organized to provide a highly effective, flexible and reliable platform for ensuring enterprises can strengthen their employees while attaining their goals. Creating a highly ethical, effective and productive workplace is possible when the core precepts and concepts of organizational behavior are used in enterprises to motivate and manage employees.
At the core of organizational behavior are the concepts of attitudes, the debate of whether debate follows attitudes or not, how attitudes affect job performance, and the fundamentals of jobs satisfaction. As the text illustrates, there is a very strong correlation between job satisfaction and performance attained on a job. The core attributes or components of attitude include affect, behavior and cognition. It is critically important to view attitudes using these three components working in conjunction with each other to fully appreciate their complexity and how difficult they are to manage and maintain. As the text points out, affect and cognition are specifically inseparable in many ways. This makes the role of a manager or leader even more complex and multidimensional, as they need to be continually aware of how the attitudes of the peers, subordinates and superiors are affecting the overall productivity of the organization as well. The cognitive example of a worker saying their pay is low is a description of a belief of how they think things are. The affective component defines the emotional or feeling sentiment and often triggers behavior outcomes. The behavior component of attitude concentrates on the intention to behave in a certain way toward something or something. Working in conjunction with each other, these three components set the foundation for how employees' attitudes are created and sustained over the long-term.
