Organizational Information System
Information system facilitates direct communication between the firm and suppliers, the manufacturers, and marketers. The emergence of the global economy and digital firms has made the information systems to be essential in business today. Most organization today uses information systems to improve efficiency in operation to achieve higher profit. Other organizations use the information system as a major tool for the firm so as to create the new products and services. The paper will summarize the components of information system and how five component models can be used in guiding my learning and thinking about the information system. The paper will also analyze my role of a knowledge worker or an expert of information systems in organization giving an example of what I want to know about IS and how it can help me do my job.
The components of information system includes; the hardware, software, data or information, people and communication Networks. Hardware are the physical components found within the computer system, these involves the input, storage and output devices such as keyboards, hard disks, printers and speakers. The software as the component of IS are the set of instructions written in codes to control operation of the computer and the way it communicates with other different computers. Communication Networks involves communication of the information over distance. Communication can take place over the phone or via the internet such as use of e-mails. Data or information on the other hand combines all the hardware, software as well as the communication equipments to make it possible for the people in organizations in analyzing effective data. The above component models can be used to guide my learning and thinking about information system in different ways. Firstly, it makes me learn on how the component of the system interrelates and work with others within a context of the larger systems, and secondly, it makes me think of how System Information can be applied in the study of medical, education and other systems (Kawalek, 2008).
My role as an expert user of information systems in organizational IS will involve evaluating the user needs as well as the system functionality. I also make sure that the Information Communication Technology (ICT) facilities meet the required needs in the organization. My other role will include scheduling the upgrades and the security backups of both the hardware and for software systems. As an expert user of IS, I try to manage the crisis situations involving various complex hardware and software technical, trying to keep the updates of latest technologies changes and providing the users with an appropriate support and advice. My other roles include researching on the IS and installing the new systems available, while ensuring the data security coming from the internal or an external attack. Anti-virus software should also be run on the system to ensure an effective and smooth running of different ICT systems in the organization, and lastly, I make sure I provide secure access to networks for the remote users (Kawalek, 2008).
