Parent Response Reflection School standards are implemented so that teachers can monitor where students are in relation to these standards; but, it is also important to explore the role of parents in the role of standards in the school system. In order to find out the levels of the standards the student is performing at, it is important to simply ask the teacher, as well as the child to materialize both a physical and mental level of standard.
There are two kinds of standards, content standards and performance standards, both of which the teacher is regularly monitoring (Educational Testing Service, 1994). Therefore, in order for the parents to find out what level of standards their child is performing it, it is absolutely imperative that the parents ask the teacher where he or she feels that there child is performing. Also, another key is to communicate with the child themselves so that the child is also able to communicate about their work and their daily struggles and triumphs.
Together, the teacher and the child should be able to provide a more accurate and comprehensive picture of what level of standards the child is performing. Though, the teacher is the responsible for the evaluating how the child is doing in relation to the standards and to find out this information, parents must be active in communicating with the teacher to track progress of how the child is doing relative to the standards.
It is important to track progress and see where improvements can be made and where less time can be spent so the student can be on par with the standards, if not exceed them completely. By using the information about the standards from both the teacher and child, it can be used as a foundation to help the child be more successful in school. It is possible that the teacher can identify the weaknesses that the child has relative to the standards.
Being able to hone on problem areas, along with the help from the teacher, will reinforce to the teacher that these are this particular students problem areas. Hopefully, this will address the areas that have issues in both the school setting and will also set up the parents to help in the appropriate areas of help and guidance at home. The school-home connection is an important one that can further reinforce things that are taught (Milne, 2011).
In this case, it would be important to help the teacher at home to summarize key events of an era, identify the human and physical characteristics of places, among other things at home so that the same information is being constantly reinforced. Again, the home-school relationship.
