¶ … Future

We live in a world that is constantly marked by differences between countries and peoples, in which the economic and historical backgrounds of the individuals determine their status in a given community. These are elements in the evolution of a person that cannot be fully controlled, but only improved. We tend to have little influence in choosing our national identity. On the surface, this limited possibility would contribute in a decisive matter to the future of our existence. However, it is my belief that education is the means through which one can overcome its limitations imposed by either the country he comes from, or the society he lives in. I see the constant improving of education as an essential part in the overall attempt to surpass the limits and differences between individuals.

A come from Belarus, a relatively small country in Europe with a difficult historical background. After graduating from high school, I chose to be given a chance to improve myself by moving to the U.S., a country with infinite possibilities for affirmation in a field that was always close to my heart, nursing. However, the decision to leave my country was taken after having studied two years in the Pedagogical School.

A came to the U.S. where I enrolled in college to get an AA Degree in Nursing. The Associate of Arts, a two years program, offered me the chance to get in contact with the what the field of nursing implied and, at the same time, enabled me to complete the first two years of a four-year bachelor's degree by acquiring the necessary knowledge from the core materials relating to this subject.

After graduating from Nursing School, I was determined to improve my academic education by enrolling in University, where I am currently studying for my BSN. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing, this four years program, is a vital phase in the academic records of every nursing student that aims to become a truly important member of its community and make a difference in the lives of those around him. By requiring prior academic experience and practical contact with the nursing environment, the program prepares its students for a career in which professionalism and knowledge are some of the basic conditions, especially taking into account the fact that nursing means constant contact with people in need. From this perspective, I consider this phase in my academic education to be an essential step in trying to reach a higher degree of professional knowledge which I would use in my future career and in my attempt to help those in need for assistance.
