Periodization
Snideman (2007) describes periodization is simply the organization and planning of training. In sport, this planning is usually based upon achieving maximum physical abilities (strength, speed, power, etc.) for a given competition or period of competitions. In general, you have a specific goal for a period, then essentially, you are using periodization. The stages include: 1.) training unit - which refers to the actual "daily "workout 2.)Microcycle - refers to a week of training 3.) mesocycle - refers to a period lasting 2 to 4 months 4.) macrocycle - the largest unit of time lasting anywhere from 1 to 4 years (Olympic cycle) (p.1)
Periodization can be utilized in numerous ways; it is an effective means when a man or a woman is preparing for events or sports (i.e. swimming, weight training, basketball etc.). If you have an individual that wants to train for a triathlon then periodization is an effective method that is efficient in method and time. Periodization is not intended for everyone in my opinion, this is due to the idea that not everyone is training for an event just because one is exercising. The intensity of such a schedule is not one to take lightly and proves the amount of dedication that it would take on the part of the trainer and the trainee. However if you have an individual that wants to improve their body in a dramatic way, effectively and quickly then this method could prove to be useful to them, on the other hand I don't see how the average individual would benefit. Another use of periodization can be to show clients the significance of timetables, and concentration on various areas of the body, and what amount of effort it would take to get the desired results.
The job of a personal trainer is not an easy task, and learning more about periodization only further supports that notion. There are so many intricate parts involved in the role of a personal trainer. Learning about this concept moves the focus past the significance of understanding the body and how it works. The focus is now on effective ways of training the body in a set time to get the result you with through the most effective means without losing time or initiative. It is also important to realize how important the motivation of the trainee is in the effectiveness of the training regardless of intensity.
When a client walks in looking for a trainer it is possible that the prospective client comes in with limited knowledge of training their bodies and other important heath issues. It is the job of the trainer to provide information, methods, and guidance that allows the client to enhance his or her appearance, as well as leaving with techniques and information that will allow clients the chance to continue their healthier lifestyles. Personal trainers play an important part and if a personal trainer does not know, what he or she is doing could cause serious issues and make clients more susceptible to injuries. Understanding how to build specific muscle groups without making other areas to bulky is important, being able to train a person to accomplish whatever his or her goals is one of the most significant things personal trainers can do. Activities like this one ensure that I will gain the necessary knowledge that will allow me to be an effective and efficient personal trainer. This assignment has also allowed an opportunity to see how intricate an intensive training schedule can actually be, as well as the amount of work that such a schedule has on the individual. Dedication is not something to be taken for granted. This assignment as well as others has also afforded an opportunity to question why things are effective, what makes one method more effective than another as well as what to look for that can indicate something being done right as well as when something is being done wrong. This knowledge insures the personal trainer's safety as well as the individual(s) being trained.
