My belief is that there is justice and fairness in this world, that there is balance. This is what my passions ultimately lead me to cultivate within this world and this society. I am the kind of person that wants there to be equality and wants there to be a fertile foundation from which people could thrive. I am passionate about cultivating in people their highest potential. Whether that is being an excellent mathematician, or even a gifted gardener, there is always potential in all the people around us.
In terms of an instance in life where that belief was exercised, I recall when I was small and I found a lost puppy on the street. The dog was filthy, covered in its own mess. No one wanted it. Everyone just ignored it. I did not. I chose to pick it up and take it home. I gave it a bath and even though my mom told me to get rid of it and it did not belong there, I chose to make sure the puppy would find a home.
I took the dog to one of my neighbors. She was kind and agreed to keep the dog until I found a suitable home. I made fliers and talked to people. Within a day I found someone willing to keep the dog. The dog went from being nothing anyone wanted and everyone ignored, to being a dog with a home.
This is how people are. People believe they cannot be anything and that no one wants them. Although some people are strong enough to do things on their own and become someone on their own, most people are not like that. They need someone to believe in them, to reach out to them. I am that kind of person to reach out.
While I cannot save everyone and I am not someone meant to be the hero, I am someone that cares. I came back to that puppy that helped rescue 4 years later. It is a girl and she is still with the same owner. She is a happy dog with many friends. Anyone that comes into the house loves her and she shows the same love right back.
The boy that adopted her is so happy to have her in his life. Whenever he is depressed, he tells me she goes right up to his lap and lays her had down to soothe him. To think those nights, she spent on his lap would have never happened, if I did not decide to take a chance on that dog. People are like that too.
People need others to take a chance on them. What may seem like some useless person could end up being one of the most gifted and talented individuals out there. No matter what a person has gone through, a person can redeem him or herself. We are all able to be the greatest we can be. We can all help to make this world a better place.
