Personal Profile

My name is Julie P. Peters; I'm a thirty-something multi-racial mother of two with a passion to become involved in the healthcare profession. Besides being a positive person, athletically active and spiritually inspired, I am very much in touch with my own emotions and the way in which they drive me and affect those around me.

Why am I pursuing a career in the healthcare industry? I have a strong desire to help others and moreover, after my parents passed away - my father from diabetes and mother from breast cancer - I dedicated myself to digging in and getting the education and experience necessary to become a contributing healthcare professional.

No person alive is without weaknesses in his or her life, but recognizing those flaws is key to dealing with them, and I try to be realistic in my recognition of my personal weaknesses. For one, I tend to be overprotective at times when it comes to my children (a common motherly trait, I believe). For another, I have such an abiding and powerful compassion towards others that I allow some people to take advantage of my kindness and generosity. In other words, I have faith in others prior to their proving their veracity. Thirdly, I am a highly competitive person, and that leads me on occasion to compete with others rather than fully cooperate.

A fourth fault or personal weakness would be that I am sometimes borderline obsessive when it comes to keeping my house clean. I really truly am uncomfortable with messiness and disorderly personal living space. And finally, the fifth flaw I would share in this essay is the fact that I am so pumped up by life and so excited at the wondrousness of each day I don't relax enough. I really need to learn to lay back, take a deep breath, and let the world take care of itself from time to time.

As to my person strengths, I believe there are five that I would like to put forward: I am a person who prides herself on integrity; I have compassion for others and for the land and animals in the natural world; I am a very loyal person; I have abiding patience with my family and friends; and fifth, I have a strong will - fortitude is a fair way to describe my personality.

As to my "negative characteristics": I do indeed get frustrated when my children forget their manners and behave poorly; I have a habit of losing track of time occasionally when I'm deeply involved in a project; as indicated earlier, I trust people too soon; I have a tendency to do things perfectly the first time, which can cause stress; and five, I become very intense when I see that something needs to be done around the house immediately.

In order to make positives out of my negatives, I believe in the Chinese ideogram that says obstacle and challenge are really the same thing - it's all in how you approach the problem. I work hard to keep my moods in a positive flow, and although we humans are sometimes the product of our emotions, professionals strive to control emotions and see life in its full perspective.

As to motivation, I am a highly inspired person, and I pride myself on finishing what I start. My impulses are nearly always fully under control as I have rehearsed channeling them into productivity. My people skills, which I learned in large part from my parents, are well defined and well developed. All my life I have enjoyed meeting and knowing people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and as a healthcare professional I will be fully ready to put my skills to work every day.
