Personal Statement of Purpose

¶ … child growing up in China I have had an interest in business. I would often sit and watch shop keepers and store owners run their businesses and think about how I would one day run my own place. As a learner and thinker, I have always been drawn to education and I loved school. My education eventually brought me to California to study at USC, and now, after completing my B.A. In finance, I'm decided to pursue advanced studies in economics.

As an international student at USC I've had the opportunity to work and learn with a very diverse population of students from both the United States and abroad. The varied perspectives of my classmates help me understand that the study of economics and business is an intricate mixture of finance, culture, and even language. As I explored the options for my graduate studies I became interested in attending the master's program at USC due to the large percentage of international students in the program. I'm impressed with the graduate work other students have done in international business and finance, and I know being connected to this community will give me an opportunity to share and learn with extremely talented and capable scholars. One of the strengths of USC's program is international trade and finance, making it an ideal fit for my long-term studies and interests.

My most recent academic work speaks for itself. A very hard working student, I complete all of my academic studies with a true interest in learning more about economic systems and business. I am especially interested in mathematical models and how they can be applied to the international economic market, and I truly enjoy discussing and exploring these topics. This enjoyment makes my academic work flow easily, and I am always able to produce my best work. I also view my role as an international student as key to my success. One day I hope to work on projects in both the United States and in China, so working closely with my professors and classmates is an important part of my educational plans and experiences. I know I would offer a great deal to the USC graduate community in terms of both my perspective as an international student and as an academically minded, committed learner.
