Personality Disorder
One of the main aims of this paper is to highlight the main personality traits of an individual suffering from one of the most common personality disorders, where an individual has a controlling personality.
Characteristics of Controlling Personality
One of the main facts that need to be highlighted here is that individuals in these conditions are fond of exerting extra control over other individuals. The control may be in the form of verbal or physical abuse. The main aim of such individuals in exerting control is to make sure that the messages are sent to the weaker individual in a forceful manner and all things happen according to personal wishes and desires. One of the main characteristics that easily characterize controlling individuals from the normal ones is that projection of a grand image is their weakness. The projection of a grandiose image is to cover insecurities and flaws that the individual has in his personality (Evans 56).
The persons with controlling personalities are known to completely lack any love, care, affection, and empathy for the other individuals. Being in a habit of controlling the others, they are not in a habit of listening to the other people's concerns and to what they might want. Being in a habit of manipulating and exerting orders on the other individuals, they are usually seen to be least concerned about the feelings of the other people.
Being in control means that these people are more in a habit of being very strong and stable, in both senses, emotionally as well as physically. Thereby in most of the cases it has been seen that expressing emotions is not easy for these individuals. most of the psychologists have reported that these individuals believe that being able to express feelings and emotions is a habit of weaker people. These individuals are seen to avoid expressing compassion and love for other individuals whereas they may be seen expressing gratitude and respect towards a certain mission of a church. These individuals are not in a habit of listening to the motions that the other people may have (Braiker 50). These people have been seen to have rigidity towards people who are struggling in life and are going through a tougher time or with people who are already emotionally weak or vulnerable in case where they might be going through a tough relationship. It has been reported that if these people are asked for advice for better parenting with a troubled teen, the advice from an overtly controlling person would be to cast the teen away, leave him in a church or be hard on him in a physical manner. In the case of marital issues, the advice would be to make sure that the wife being a weaker person should be made to submit to the much stronger husband. If a depressed individual asks such controlling person for an advice, it would be repent on sins making sure that such sins are not committed again.
These individuals are overtly paranoid and these are in a strong habit of suspecting the other people of planning again him making sure that his personality and ministry are negatively affected. When certain people refuse to be manipulated, and controlled, they are suspected of having wicked plans against him.
