Petition for Admission to Graduate School

Thank you very sincerely in advance for your consideration of my petition for admission to Wright State University Graduate School. I am a motivated and intelligent self-starter with a powerful desire to improve my educational standing and in the process to create a bright future for my family. Driving my dream is a passion for knowledge and experience that can mightily enhance my ability to offer my children new and bold opportunities for their lives and careers.

I am a mother of three children (ages 9 years, 7 years, and 4 years of age) who has successfully balanced raising a family with full time work obligations, and now I am ready to launch the next phase of my career.

Acceptance into the Wright State University Graduate School -- with a major in finance -- will open the door to a new career landscape for me, and will challenge me to be the most excellent professional in the field of finance that I can possibly be. I can assure those professors and instructors that provide guidance and knowledge within the graduate program that I will be the consummate scholar, dedicated to following through on all assignments and showing maturity, stability, and leadership in special projects or internships as well.

My previous experience in the world of finance will be helpful for me as I pursue a graduate degree in finance from Wright State University. I worked for over five years in a bank as head of customer service. In that position I was head of the fund transfer unit (processing local transfers for customers); I also prepared end-of-the-month reports for management and I implemented the bank's evolving operational policies effectively.

Opening accounts and monitoring accounts for customers was also part of my job description and I am proud to have received an award from the CEO of the bank I worked for as "Best Customer Service Staff Person."

During those years when I provided very competent services to the bank, I never stopped visualizing myself in a position as a managing director or a CEO of a company that is involved in finance in some meaningful way. My enthusiasm for the future has never been greater than it is at this point in my life, and I am thoroughly energized and prepared for this next step in my education.

As to why I did not do well on the GMAT exam, I have an honest explanation for that. First let me say that I am fully aware that the GMAT exam is seen as a predictor of success at the university level. I am also aware that graduate programs make decisions as to a person's qualifications for entrance vis-a-vis the application process.

On the day of the exam I arrived in time but unfortunately I did not have the correct driver's license with me. I rushed home, picked up my international passport, and rushed back. By having to go through this stressful process I became emotionally exhausted, and clearly I was not at my best during the GMAT test.
