Human Caring Theory and My Nursing Practice

My nursing mission, vision, and philosophy align with those of my organization. I work for a healthcare organization that follows the Jean Watson theory of caring and this is my vision in life.
Nursing Mission Statement
As a nurse, I support my organization’s mission through the work that I do. The organization’s mission is to demonstrate excellence in practice through a dedication to evidence-based patient care in a caring and healing environment. The organization promotes innovation in technology, programs, and practice by actively participating in research (Pajnkihar, McKenna, Štiglic, 2017). Importantly, we offer a respectful and compassionate environment for our community members through our patient-oriented care model.
Nursing Vision Statement
In the profession, I will maintain professional excellence through opening the doors for learning and self-expression. In fact, my organization aligns with this vision because it is often agile in its response to professional, patient, financial and healthcare delivery system changes and needs.
Nursing Philosophy
My philosophy is to provide, the best, most compassionate care while creating a caring and safe environment. My values are based on the belief that the scope of nursing care covers the maintenance, restoration, and promotion of the human body, mind, and spirit for a defined state of health (Clark, 2016). In doing so, I will be opening the doors for learning and self-expression.
Relationship between Organizations Defined Goals and My Philosophy
It is my enduring aspiration to offer the best and the most compassionate care while creating a safe, holistic, and caring environment for my patients (Clark, 2016). In my daily practice, I keep in mind that my patients are not objects or medical conditions but consider them as people who deserve and are in need of personalized care and attention. Therefore, I often apply clinical judgments to fulfill patient needs. As a community advocate, I empower my clients by advising them to become active contributors to their own medical needs and engage in a shared decision-making between themselves and the caregivers. The nursing code of ethics stipulates that I should always guarantee patient confidentiality except in cases where the law requires otherwise (Brewer & Watson, 2015). In fact, it involves educating clients and their families regarding healthy behaviors, diseases, and interventions to enhance their results. Moreover, I must strive to engage in positive behavior in my life because I believe that by properly caring for myself, I will deliver quality care to other people as well.
The difference between the organization’s goals and my philosophy is that I am focused on continuous learning to improve my practice. I will not only learn through attending school, reading journals and textbooks but also from interacting with other professionals within the industry (Clark, 2016). For me, each day is a learning opportunity, and in the end, I will apply what I have learned to revamp my nursing skills. Despite the difference, the organization’s defined goals and my philosophy are similar because we believe that nursing is premised on integrity, knowledge and caring. Moreover, we are focused on patient healing, patient needs, and patient safety (Brewer & Watson, 2015). Overall, my philosophy and the organization’s goals are congruent because my values and philosophy are driving forces that nursing promotes. As a nurse, I am obliged to the community to offer a patient-centered, holistic and safe care.
Conclusively, by incorporating evidence-based practice in my daily work, I will be able to achieve positive patient results. I believe in maintaining, restoring and promoting the human body, mind, and spirit for a defined state of health. Overall, it arises from the theory of patient-centered care, which advocates that nurses should look at patients not at medical cases but rather as people who deserve and are in need of personalized care and attention.
