Analysis of General Motors Module 1 SLP [Pick the date]

The company that has been selected to analyze for the SLP project is General Motors. This company has been selected by me because it has been undoubtedly a market leader in automobile industry for several decades. And the interesting part about GM's history is that after ruling in this industry enjoying complete sovereignty, it filed for bankruptcy in year 2009. How a giant turned into a feeble structure, would have an interesting story to analyze. Main source of information about GM would its website, its published statement, printed articles, reports of market research companies, online libraries and authentic journals about it; all these sources would be mainly accessed through internet.

General Motors Mission Statement and/or Vision Statement

Mission Statements and Vision Statements are written for customers and employees of corporations. A Mission Statement can be defined as a sentence or short paragraph written by a company or business which reflects its core purpose, identity, values and principle business aims. The definition for a Vision Statement is a sentence or short paragraph providing a broad, inspirational image of the future.

Here, is General Motors Mission Statement as extracted by an online resource (Company-statements-slgans.info):

"G.M. is a multinational corporation engaged in socially responsible operations, worldwide. It is dedicated to provide products and services of such quality that our customers will receive superior value while our employees and business partners will share in our success and our stock-holders will receive a sustained superior return on their investment."

General Motors Vision Statement:

"Over the past 100 years, GM has been a leader in the global automotive industry. And the next 100 years will be no different. GM is committed to leading the industry in alternative fuel propulsion."

"GM's vision is to be the world leader in transportation products and related services. We will earn our customers' enthusiasm through continuous improvement driven by the integrity, teamwork, and innovation of GM people."

After analyzing the mission statements and vision of GM, one can easily say that it was sheer optimism and zeal which made GM rule for so many decades in a row. One can also analyze that these statements were drafted not only keeping the organizations interest in mind but also other stake holders too.

Talking about customers; GM's sole vision is based on ruling the global automotive market, providing with new solutions for transportations issues every day. Since customer is the backbone of any industry, then of course their mission is to satisfy their customer to an optimum level and also ensuring that customer remains loyal to them. It was only this vision which made GM provide top class cars to different classes and segments of customers.

Considering employees now; employees and organization cannot be separated. For the life of one, the other is necessary. Apparently it looks like as if company's vision is solely based on customers" welfare. However if we closely analyze it, we will observe that GM's mission is to become a market leader. Of course it cannot thrive at its own. It needs human resource for that and it needs to take good care of that asset. This is the reason why GM is best employer in terms of healthcare.

Talking about distributors, service providers, share holders and other stake holders; the well-being is in the continuity and growth of business. Therefore, one can easily assume that since GM is aiming to capture maximum market share by satisfying its customers with an impeccable service, all these stake holders will benefit from that.

We can conclude that GM's mission statements and vision are quite smartly drafted as it caters to not only organization's need but also to the stake holders involved in the whole mechanism of it.
