Industrial Revolution
What Was Changed
How it Changed the Economy
Examples (one from 1900, one from Today)
The main thing that changed was the United States shifted from an agrarian society to one that was industrial and manufacturing in nature
The main thing it changed is that it shifted families from being self-contained units to having people (including some women) leave their homes daily and go to work
An example from 1900 would be the mass assembly of things like farm implements and tools. An example from today would be any automobile assembly line
(Article Myriad, 2015).
Research and record three definitions of revolution and terrorism, and then develop your own definition of each. Describe what each means to you, and provide examples.
Merriam-Webster offers three definitions of revolution:
The usually violent attempt by many people to end the rule of one government and start a new one (Merriam-Webster, 2015).
A sudden, extreme or complete change in the way people live, work, etc.
(Merriam-Webster, 2015).
3) The action of moving around something in a path that is similar to a circle (Merriam-Webster, 2015).
My personal definition of a revolution is closest to the second one. It would be when there is a major change in the way people live, perceive things and so forth. The author of this report would consider American post-9/11 a revolution because it completely changed things…at least for a time.
Terrorism only has two definitions on the Merriam-Webster website. They are as follows:
1) The use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal (Merriam-Webster, 2015).
2) The systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion (Merriam-Webster, 2015).
3) The FBI website defines terrorism using two lenses, those being domestic and international. Domestic is terrorism that meets the following criteria:
a. "Involves acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law (FBI, 2015).
b. "Appear intended 1) To intimidate or coerce a civilian population 2) To influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion or 3) TO affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping" (FBI, 2015).
c. "Occurs primarily (if not entirely) within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S." (FBI, 2015).
The author of this report would define terrorism as any activity meant to instill fear as a means to force people to do (or not do) something. A person calling in a bomb threat is a terrorist and so is any member of ISIS. There are obviously degrees, but still.
3. Compare and contrast the various economic systems across the globe. Generate at least three examples of each, and discuss their similarities and differences
