Post Self-Reflection
The female is very much goal-oriented. One might say that she is an over-achiever. She has two major, music and biology, although she admits that she only socializes and is friends with the music students. She admits that she really does not know anyone socially from her biology classes.
She chose U.S.C. because its music department is considered the number one non-conservatory music school in the country. Moreover, it is known to have a very high academic standard, therefore, she could do both her academic studies and her music at a very high level.
She lives in a dorm on campus to avoid commuting back and forth to class and for the independence of being out from under her parents' thumb. She enjoys the freedom very much.
She admits that coming from an all girls school forced adjustments on her part. She was intimidated by the size of the classes and the lack of personal contact between students and teacher. She admits that most of her friends are girls, although she does have a few male friends, she feels more comfortable with females. She admits that she has more time for a social life in college than she did in high school, although, she seems to put her academic life far ahead of her social life. She believes that organizing one's time is the biggest adjustment to college life.
Interview II
She chose U.S.C. because her mother worked there and therefore, the tuition was less expensive and admits that if it were not for the financial issue, she would not be attending this particular college, even though the school has a good reputation.
She appears to be well balanced. She is a pre-med student with a minor in business. Being an only child, her parents wanted her to live at home and commute, however, she chose to live on campus and feels she would miss out on much of the college social life if not for dorm life. She loves the experience of dorm life and enjoys the independence from her over-protective parents.
She admits to being shy when she first came, especially around males. She says she was not sure how to communicate with them, since she came from an all-girls school. However, she seems to have adjusted to socializing with mixed-gender groups and admits that she enjoys meeting new people everyday.
