This book has nine chapters, which differently show the several parts which poverty culture consists of.

And further the book provides a complete understanding of poverty, both in terms of definition and that of way of living. (the Supervisors Summary) Payne enables us to understand the secretive regulations concerning economic class and transmits the message that, in spite of the obstacles poverty can form in all kinds of communication that there are certain techniques for getting over them. By means of case studies, personal narrations and by means of observations, Payne creates a balance and gives a hopeful message.

It provides an understanding of the differences which are involved when somebody educates a child who has to live in poverty. It thus enables to relate to poverty-stricken individuals. The several real life events are really an eye opener and such a realization enables us to understand as to how the lives of these students are in relation to one's own life-situation. The book thus enables to understand a matter which is sensitive, but also gives solutions for dealing with the problem.
