Ethics Application
Ethics inventory is a program that evaluates ones particular ethical style. Everyone has their own view of ethical behavior and expectations hence it is important everyone to realize for everyone to realize what that perspective is, hence this program asks various questions and evaluate the answers and eventually realize what type of ethical person one is. Most people base their ethical views on character, obligation, results or equity. People might have blended styles that place them in two categories at the same time (Collak, 2007). This paper will look at how educational experience has affected the way I think ethically. It will further look at how I use ethics in my way of thinking and every decision making process that I undertake. Finally the paper will highlight on the potential for conflict in situations where people have different interpretations of ethical behavior.
From the results of my ethical awareness profile, my ethical profile is aligned with character mostly and least closely aligned with equity. The ethical perspective that I take is leaning towards what is good to be and not what is good to do. My belief is that ethics should mainly focus on how people can achieve excellence morally. If my attention is required on making judgment on whether particular individual's actions are ethical I overlook the action and my focus becomes the character of the individual. My assessments of the individual include integrity and uprightness. According to me someone who merely complies with rules even if their intentions are good does not mean that the individual is ethical unless it is accompanied by consistent striving to be a morally good person.
Ethics play a crucial role in the way I think and make decisions. This is because ethics are morals that I should constantly hold to even when am in situations where no one is looking or watching. In my critical thinking ethics influence the way I think on subjects depending on what I believe in. When making decisions personal ethics help me to prevent making decisions that are not ethically correct to other people and the society at large. When making ethical decisions then I am required to evaluate and choose among available alternatives in manners that are consistent to ethical principles. Therefore when making ethical decisions I will take note and eliminate unethical options, select the best ethical alternatives and have ethical commitment, ethical consciousness and ethical competency.
My educational experience has affected the way I think ethically since I have learned different cultures, backgrounds, beliefs and perspectives from the different people in my class and all the educational materials that have been provided to me. It has certainly provided me with some key words and concepts that might be of importance when specifying how I think ethically. It has also given me an idea and now it is possible for me to understand why people make decisions the way they do, though not agree with their decisions at all times the knowledge helps me to be more tolerant towards different people (Collak, 2007).This is because of my understanding on the theory behind ethical decisions and can now easily see the different points-of-view of people. This educational knowledge has also helped in the examination of how people act and their decisions from an objective angle. I believe that ethics relies on an individual's ability to make moral judgments that are sound.
