Privacy Law One such privacy law that has been enacted is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). It has provisions that govern data use and privacy among healthcare providers, insurers, and employers. There are stringent measures put in place to govern recording and sharing of communication between financial services providers and their clients (Mills, 2009). Outside the United States territory, there are legislations put in place that guarantee once privacy.

Europe, as a matter of fact has a very strict European Privacy Directive that governs provisions that limit data collection, notice and approval of myriad types of data collection, and making data available to customers with mechanisms for stopping collection efforts and correcting inaccuracies. HIPAA compels healthcare providers, insurers, and employers to only use data in their position in total regard of the law. Divulging any information in their possession to unauthorized party is illegal and would attract a legal suit.

This information should be stored in such a way that no person other than the healthcare providers, insurers, and employers get access to it (Mills, 2009). Consumers can at times lose from privacy laws under circumstances when the government is looking for relevant electronic information to support litigation support. Institutions having such records may be compelled to dive into their electronic records. This may be expensive to such organizations because if they are complying with a judge's order it them who cover the cost of retrieving such information.

A number of products I use make use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that creates a computer program capable of improving on functions of the human brain. I normally use Artificial Intelligence when renting movies from Netflix and when buying books from the Amazon.com. The program normally prompts me. I remember I was at one time told that "because I enjoyed the movie 'Godzilla' we thought you would enjoy 'Ultraman'." I also use Google search when doing online research.

There are different kinds of AI that can be used in Netflix movie recommendation system, Apple's iTunes Genius playlist builder or Amazon's Website personalization (Kate, 2006). These include collaborative filtering recommendation system, memory-based recommendation system, and model-based recommendation system. The model-based system is developed used matrix factorization techniques, data mining, and machine learning algorithm to find patterns based on existing data. Memory-based recommendation systems uses user-based or item-based techniques. For user-based techniques, a number of similar users are found by calculating similarity with the basic loop inside similar user's items.

Item-based technique also works in a similar manner. The system works by finding similarity for active user to all other users and picking top k-nearest neighborhood. It then selects items that the user has not yet rated and subsequently computes a weighted prediction rating for items (Newitz, 2009). Collaborative filtering recommendation system collects user preferences and then generate predictions by user-based similarities or item-based similarities.

Business that sell their products on Amazon.com platform, those that rent out movies, and those that engage in playlist building should seriously consider integrating artificial intelligence.
