While images of superman, batman, or iron man pop up every time someone thinks of a hero, the truth is that anyone can be a hero as long as the respective person has the willpower to do so and comes across circumstances enabling him or her to do so.

People need to understand that everyone can be heroes and that morality is one of the primary attributes that a person needs to have in order to be able to take on heroic behavior. Many people fail to understand what a hero is and they guide themselves in accordance with the saying "heroes are born, not made." In reality, exceptional circumstances are primarily important when considering heroes and some people might react heroically even though they are not typically accustomed to expressing benevolent attitudes.

Most people dream that they will one day get the chance to become heroes and that the whole world is going to be thankful after that day. Also, numerous individuals think about how they want to replicate behavior seen in a famous individual who they consider responsible for performing a great deal of good deeds. Being a hero is not something that stays with someone for a lifetime, as some heroes might find themselves in situations when they are no longer able to put across hero-like behavior.

Even with the fact that a person is extremely courageous, he or she can fail to react effectively in some situations. This means that all people are heroes at some points in their lives while they fail to exercise their heroic attitudes in others. Law enforcement officers, doctors, firemen, and war veterans can all be considered to be heroes, given that these individuals perform great efforts with the purpose of helping others.

However, while this is essentially their job, other people perform heroic acts without actually being in charge of doing so. They expect nothing in return for their assistance and all they are interested in is the well-being of the people that they are helping. Moreover, there are some people who risk their lives in order to save others. This demonstrates that these individuals are some of 'best' heroes possible, taking into account that they are actually willing to risk losing their lives because they want to save others.

According to Zimbardo (2011), "a heroic act is one performed with recognition of possible risks and costs, be they to one's physical health or personal reputation, in which the actor is willing to accept anticipated sacrifice." This means that someone simply helping a person cannot be considered a hero. The respective individual needs to take some risks in order to be a hero and he or she needs to express no interest in the compensation that he or she might receive as a consequence of his or her act.

One of the most intriguing things about being a hero is the fact that opportunities arise very often. People often suffer because of accidents or because of other people and someone always needs.
