Project management, the control process can be replaced with proper standards and guidelines. Too much control is counter-productive. Do you agree or disagree with this view? Provide reasoning for your view." agree with this view. The concept of standards and guidelines is to provide the most simple and yet most useful process of doing things. Standards and guidelines can allow a systematic process to prevent confusions. They are guiding principles that can assist and lead an activity into step-by-step processes that were determined to be helpful and efficient during the time that they were made and accepted to be the norm. Having proper standards and guidelines in any activity can allow a better outcome than having too much controls to focus on.
One area where proper standards and guidelines can be seen to be useful is in project management. Managing a project deals with lots of important things to consider. This includes determining project information and requirements, project analysis, project development, test, and implementation among many others. If we are to create different controls that will dictate the general method of carrying out each of these processes, the project manager will then need to keep track of each of these controls. It is in this manner where we can say that too much control is counter-productive. For instance, in case a problem in one of the controls occurs, chances are, more attention will be given to that control leaving the others with less attention. This may lead to confusion and may result to slow productivity of both the project manager as well as the progress of the project. However, if we are to replace the different controls (since they all have similar purpose which is to provide a general method of carrying out the process) with proper standards and guidelines, project management will become easier. This is because the project manager will just need to concentrate on one general set of procedures for every activity related to the project.
