EDITING AND PROOFREADING OF CUSTOMER'S ORIGINAL DOCUMENT
How have your interests and related experiences influenced your selection of major?
My intellectual interest in Biology began with a camping trip that I was fortunate enough to be a part of when I was twelve. In essence, that trip introduced me to an appreciation of life that I had not previously experienced. On that trip I witnessed the birth of a horse, the migration of thousands of fish, and I studied the structure and of trees. The trip also introduced me to the concept of selective breeding and the fascinating ways by which we have learned to control natural processes.
My new interest continued through the freshman Living Environment which, in turn, inspired me to take AP Biology two years later. It is during this course when I really grasped the idea that this should be my major in college. The AP Biology subject matter only further confirmed my interest in the biological sciences that I hope to pursue further in my education and future career.
Handball Essay
When I was eight, my family moved to the city and our new house was right across the street from a handball court. During the summer, the older neighborhood boys played everyday from morning until after dark. To me, the handball courts were always a place that held a mystic that I hoped to be part of when I was older but for approximately 7 years consecutive summers, I could only watch the older boys play from my window.
It was the summer after I turned fifteen before I summoned the courage to start going to the handball court but my peers quickly taught me the rules and strategy of the game. My family encouraged me to play because the game teaches good sportsmanship and integrity, and my father could see that my daily practicing was building up my determination to achieve proficiency at something new. Before long, I was one of the regular players and I practiced all day long throughout that summer. I tried out for the school handball team as a freshman but I was too inexperienced to make the team.
