¶ … social media on traditional media.

The study's intent is to investigate whether currency and growing popularity of social media impacts readers' interest in traditional media so that the latter is waning in popularity and usage

The research question asks whether social media has a significant impact on reducing the popularity of traditional media.

The positive hypothesis is that social media does have a significant impact in reducing people's interest in reading traditional media.

The null hypothesis is that social media has little to null effect on reducing reader's interest in traditional media.

The independent variable is social media. The dependent variable is traditional media.

Quantitative Research Method design

This will be a cross-sectional longitudinal survey measured over the duration of 20 years and conducted throughout each of the States where a wide diversity of readers of all ages and both genders will be surveyed in order to see whether their interest in social media is growing and whether, correspondingly, there interest in traditional media has declined.

The survey will be conducted on Survey Monkey and distributed through that same service to 100 individuals. Cost of service will come to $300.

Objective of study will be explained, possibly through a story antedating and representing the objective of the study. The story pulls reader in and hooks interest.

The questions themselves will be open-ended and constitute five or six at the most. The least questions, the more likely participants will be ready to answer them and interested.

Some questions will be graded according to a Likert scale of 1to 5 asking reader to grade response according to a spectrum of 1='very" to 5= "not at all"

The questions of the survey will be coded. Responses of completed surveys will then be summed up and calculated. Actually Survey Monkey does all of that for me also handing me the graphs and other calculations involved in results.

A survey has many details going into it to ensure its reliability and validity. Part of my reason for using Survey Monkey is that it guarantees its conducting survey according to outmost scientific credibility.

Data analysis

A regression analysis using SPSSS will be conducted in order to see whether there is any pattern of correlation between growth of social media and declension of popularity of traditional media and whether this pattern of correlation / association can be predicted to continue. Even if results of study point to declension of popularity of traditional media, the best that this study can show is that there is an apparent association between interest in social media and reduction of readers' interest in traditional media but this, by no way, indicates a cause-and-effect situation. Results may be caused by indirect and concealed effects such as people's growing interest in Internet, or less time to read traditional media. The best that this study can do is to show patterns in ether variable without drawing connection between either. Neither can generalizations be drawn to include possibility that a particularly appealing traditional media may be read more than social media will.
