¶ … David faced

David has been having challenges at work due to the treatment that he was receiving from his boss. His boss was treating him in a very bad way, such as calling him very early hours of the day, allowing other workers to address him differently, awarding other undeserving employees and so on. Quitting his job was not an option since he had a lot of responsibilities. The only thing he opted for was a lateral move. He was contemplating for a lateral move within the company where he was going to have a new boss Irving. However he had never got the opportunity for an interview with Irving since all the time he had to cancel the scheduled appointments as he had to attend to his boss. This intended move was a great challenge to David since he did not know Irving very well and was not sure if it was the right move to make or not (Silverman, 2010).He was not sure if this move would be a right step to developing his career.

Recommendations I agree with the recommendation that David should stay where he is since taking the job would not be advancement in his career. Besides, there are many bad bosses all over and what makes him so sure that Irving would be any better. Furthermore, the bad relationship he has with his boss can just trail him to his new position. A move to another company would be a better option if he found that he could no longer work with his boss. He should just make the best out of the situation by trying to make his boss aware of his crazy behavior in a polite way. This might be through letting his boss know what he thinks his boss needs from him as an employee. If his boss approved he could then offer ways on how he could achieve what is expected from him. He could also create an informal support network with his colleagues such as Steve (Silverman, 2010).This could be where the colleagues blow off steam from their boss as well as coming up with coping strategies for dealing with their boss. He could try and set some boundaries between him and his boss. This he can achieve through confronting his boss but in a polite way to tell him about what he does not like in his behavior. For instance he could let him know that he does not appreciate the calls he receives from him at 5.30am.this could lead to a better and more enjoyable relationship between David and his boss. This will make him be more comfortable in his job and hence there will be no need for making the move (Cooper, M.(2012).
