The rapidly changing nature of the competitive environment is also discussed in the context of Xiameter's product and pricing strategies. These specific aspects of product and pricing are evaluated in the context of Ron Fillmore's greatest question in the case, which is whether the company should modify its business model or not. This analysis concludes with a series of recommendations and advice for Rom Fillmore as to the future direction of Xiameter. In conjunction with this effort, Xiameter could also create an entirely new approach to launching products where customers have a chance to also participate in the actual launch event online. This could be done through an extensive product testing strategy that invites customers to provide their feedback on specific compounds and complex products, ensuring the approach to productization of these complex chemically-based products align and meet and exceed their expectations. The dual-brand strategy is so successful for Xiameter due to the fact the product strategy directly aligns to the specific needs-based segmentation in place. This congruence of product strategy, pricing, distribution, supply chain considerations and fulfillment all are synchronized around delivering an exceptional and accurate customer purchasing experience. Dow Corning was able to create this type of synchronization through the use of processes and methodologies learned from branding being needs-based (Rozin, Magnusson, 2003). Comparing this approach with the most commonly used approach of competitors and those companies who continually exalt and worship their products in their marketing, the needs-based approach that stresses relevancy to the customer first is immediately recognizable by customers in this market.

Product and pricing strategies must stay aligned and congruent to the needs of customers, and Dow Corning needs to continually use this approach to defining new products for the dual branding strategy to succeed for the long-term. The high-end of their product line is sold predominantly through a services-based, very solution-centric sales cycle (Minter, 2011). Their core value proposition as a company is predicated on being the trusted advisor for corporate chemicals product purchasers. The long-standing supply chains have all been organized around this goal and the company has succeeded as a result (Zubko, 2008). This core business is defensible for a certain length of time from price competition yet not immune from damage from price-driven competitors.
