In this article, the author shows the desperation that many drug addicts have in their lives and the way addiction has destroyed the lives of the addicts. For a long time, conventional drug treatment has often been used as a means of helping the drug addicts to recover from the addiction. The method of treatment and recovery assumes that addicts come to a point when they seek help for recovery. Hover, this is impractical considering the addictive nature of the drugs.

I like the article as it explores very pertinent issues that lawmakers and policymakers need to take into consideration in the fight against drug and substance abuse. For instance, the inability of the existing medical infrastructure in helping drug addicts to recover from the addiction is indeed a reality. A true revolution in the fight against drug abuse must begin by acknowledging this fact. Secondly, the article proposes the use of jails as rehabilitative facilitates for drug addicts. I agree with this article that jails will provide a controlled environment in which drug addicts can get true and effective rehabilitation. In essence, the addicts will not be predisposed to drug addiction during the entire period of rehabilitation. In summary, the article gives very insightful Ideas that policy makers and legislators must consider in the fight against drug addiction.

The author discusses the various reforms that have been undertaken by the Office of the Attorney in making halfway houses more effective in transforming inmates before during the last period of their sentence to help them quickly integrate into the society. These measures are aimed at ensuring that the inmates do not engage in crime and hence find themselves back in prison once they are released.

I find several arguments in this article quite interesting. For instance, the article sights the incompetence of the halfway house in reforming the inmates. What is interesting is the fact that the halfway houses are set up for the very purpose of reforming inmates and ensuring that they can be integrated into the society. These houses were established to create the link between prison and society by giving inmates an opportunity to have a new start of once they leave the confines of the prison. Interestingly, these houses have been incapable of carrying out the mandate. Nevertheless, I agree with the article on the effectiveness of the measures recently put in place in ensuring the effectiveness of halfway houses in transforming the inmates and giving them an opportunity to have a new start.
