Reasons Why I Wish to Obtain My Doctor of Nurse Practitioner

What is your motivation for earning a doctoral degree?

First, I have always been motivated to succeed in every aspect of education and professional training that I have pursued. I have never settled for anything less than excellence in all endeavors I have undertaken -- in particular, education and training. I conduct research with thoroughness and I have fine-tuned my study strategies so I can make the most of my pursuit of pivotal knowledge. To wit, by learning more and through advanced training strategies, I will definitely be of greater assistance to those whose care will be my responsibility -- and my ability to mentor young people that entering the nursing field will also be greatly enhanced.

Hence, a doctorate program will certainly help me fulfill my strong desire to obtain the knowledge I need to pursue my goals in nursing education. I am aware that the role of a professional with a DNP degree will be changing and evolving along with the advances in healthcare services as time goes by. I pride myself on being the kind of person that is able to adapt and learn as the dynamics of the healthcare field advance and progress.

TWO: What do you envision doing differently when your degree is complete?

What I see for myself is a continuing of my passion to grow and learn and become a stronger leader. I see myself perhaps helping to educate and train young people whose aspirations are to become nurses; I know that I can convey a sense of importance and value to those that are training in this field, and I also believe I have the communication skills to be able to motivate young people in the healthcare field.

Also, I have plans to become involved in administrative and other leadership positions. My long-term goals are to make a difference in our society, and this may mean that I become involved in public health issues. The many community needs when it comes to healthcare are of great importance to the nation. There are communicable diseases, and dangerous diseases that can be transmitted quickly through communities, and I'm aware of that. As a DNP, I will seek to have a positive impact vis-a-vis public health institutions, wherever I can. Meanwhile, as an advocate in an educational setting, and in clinical settings, I will seek to solve problems and motivate others to become part of vital solutions.

THREE: What is your idea for a topic for your Direct Practice Improvement (DPI) Project?

My plan is to create an evidence-based research (EBR) proposal. Along with that topic, I will embrace the theories -- quantitatively and qualitatively -- behind transformational leadership and the nurse manager attrition dynamic. Research has clearly shown that healthcare organizations must employ a number of well-thought-out strategies in order to achieve a truly efficient and effective adoption of evidence (EBR) in nursing. The emphasis must be on evidence-based-research at a number of important levels in this field.
