To Whom it May Concern:

I am the Director of the ____ YMCA, where Jane Doe is employed as a Certified Swim Instructor. It is my most sincere pleasure to comply with her request to provide a professional recommendation in support of her candidacy for your Masters Degree in Counseling program.

Generally, Jane is always extremely punctual and conscientious and she brings a very positive attitude to the team. Even with her many different obligations, she has managed to accommodate schedule changes and always does her very best to be as flexible as possible to contribute to our mission. It is truly a pleasure to watch her interact with children because she has a natural gift for bringing out the most from her students and she is beloved by all the children with whom she works as well as by their parents. As an agency director, I am tremendously appreciative to have someone like Jane represent our organization.

More particularly, Jane is an accomplished Swim Instructor with more than 300 hours of training; she is certified by the American Red Cross as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor, as well as in adult, child, and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). We were lucky enough to have Jane on our staff through the Summer seasons of 2005 (May - August), 2007 (May-July), and 2008 (May - August). During that time, Jane ingratiated herself beautifully into the YMCA family, working primarily as a swim instructor for children aged 2 through 12. Jane has a natural talent for teaching children to improve their aquatic abilities, for achieving results, and for incorporating her own personally developed techniques within her instructional methods. Besides independently conducting group sessions with children who are moderate-to-advanced swimmers, Jane also demonstrated a talent for working with individual high-need children requiring one-on-one attention. Jane is particularly skilled at dividing her time and attention efficiently to different levels of swimmers and routinely managed to include older, high-need swimmers within her beginner-level classes without detracting from the quality of instruction provided to swimmers of different ages and levels of proficiency, including first-time swimmers. As apart of our Big Brother/Big Sister program, Jane tutors the students in the 7 -9 age group in the YMCA after-school program. Currently, Jane has one Little Sister to whom Jane regularly provides homework assistance in addition to taking her on play dates twice a month. It is obvious that the two of them share a very close, special bond and to Jane's credit, she has already made plans to continue mentoring her Little Sister on an informal basis if that is ever necessitated by her many other responsibilities and educational pursuits. We genuinely consider Jane a tremendously valuable asset to our YMCA family and we have every reason to expect that she will be extremely successful as a student at the University of San Diego and in all her future academic, personal, and professional pursuits and that she will continue to contribute more than her share to her community.
