Carp as a candidate to lecture the MBA students at Daniel University. Indeed, the many accomplishments and leadership, and speaking skills displayed by Mr. Carp appear to make him a choice from which this University can profit. SOLID BACKGROUND IN Business Daniel A.
Carp shows great tenacity in his career, as well as exceptional skill in business and public speaking. Beginning his illustrious career as statistical analyst during 1970, he used his skill and learning to work up to increasingly responsible positions. Following several management positions within the company, Mr. Carp was elected as a member of the Board of Directors in December of 1997, after which he was promoted to president and chief executive officer. He served in this position from January through December, 2000 (Eastman Kodak Company 2004). After this Mr.
Carp was chairman, president and chief executive officer until April 16, 2001, chairman and chief executive officer until January 4, 2002, and president and chief operating officer until April 2, 2003. Mr. Carp's businesses prowess has also been awarded on several occasions. These show that he is not only an excellent business man, but also a practitioner of sound principles in business ethics. The most recent he received was the PhotoImaging Manufacturers & Distributors Association Person of the Year Award in February 2004.
Other awards he received was the Diversity Best Practices 2003 CEO Leadership Award, and the Photographic & Imaging Manufacturers Association Leadership Award in 2001 (Eastman Kodak Company 2004). FUTURE ORIENTED In the business world Mr. Carp has shown that he is very much aware of the need to keep up with technological change. Indeed, he has led the Kodak company towards the future with numerous new technologies.
This element is very useful in a lecturer, as students need to be made aware not only of existing technology, but also of the need to research on a continual level. Business Wire (2002) reports Mr. Carp's 2002 address to an audience attending Photokina, a prominent imaging trade show and exhibition. The CEO's speech centered around not only the need to make the best use of infoimaging, the newest imaging technology, but also the need to keep technological solutions clear and simple (Business Wire, 2002). This shows that Mr.
Carp is concerned with making himself accessible to his public, which would presumably translate itself in a lecturer-student relationship as well. Business AND COMMUNITY VALUES In both his speaking and business engagements, Mr. Carp appears to hold sound values relating to business and the community. In his keynote speech of 2002 for example, he indicates that business partners are important, especially in new business ventures. He also shows this principle in practice by incorporating several partnerships with the Eastman Kodak Company.
These involve several projects in collaboration with companies such as SANYO Electric Co., Ltd., Hewlett-Packard (Phogenix Imaging), Heidelberg (NexPress), and Noritsu Koki Co. (Business Wire, 2002). A further major point in Carp's favor is his apparent focus on diversity within his company. The CEO was for example honored with the Diversity Leadership Award offered by Diversity Best Practices/Business Women's Network during the year 2003 (Business Wire, Oct. 23, 2003). Daniel Carp has overseen the creation of a "Winning and Inclusive Culture" at his company.
This shows that he is aware of the potential within a wide diversity of people. An ability to recognize such potential would translate well to a diversified classroom. It also shows that Carp is experienced in leading a culture that is inclusive of the many.
