The book starts with Billy taking in a coonhound that is suffering as a result of fighting other dogs. The novel ends with Billy and his family affording to move to town as a consequence of earning money from selling fur coming from raccoons captured by his dogs. I came across a great deal of adventure episodes in the book, as Billy is constantly handling intriguing situations.
