¶ … women in the French Revolution-
Abray, J. (1975). Feminism in the French Revolution. The American Historical Review. 80 (1): 43-62.
Database -- JSTOR.org -- a collection of over a thousand academic journals, particularly those relating to the social sciences. Google.scholar is also a good source for materials, but often includes more than just articles.
Overview/Reliability -- The American Historical Review is part of the American Historical Society and is an advocate for professional and scholarly standards within the field of historical studies. Each article published is peer reviewed and must meet rigorous academic standards. It has been published regularly since 1895, and is one of the industry's standards. Use of material from the AHR means that the quality of writing and research has been vetted by other scholars, and although conclusions and interpretations may vary, the material is of sound content.
Part 2 -- Online resource of legitimate non-profit regarding political activism on slavery or child labor-
Citation: www.humantrafficking.org
Database -- Use of any basic search engine, use terms: human trafficking, modern slavery, child labor, child labor, etc. then find verbiage that indicates "non-governmental organization" -- find out if international or national, and what resources and best practices that organization holds.
Overview/Reliability - Under "best practices" this site has clear, well-defined goals that deal with domestic and international prevention, protection and control. There are adequate references based on scholarly and governmental sources (State Department, etc.), initiatives, and both academic and governmental links to prove legitimacy.
Part 3 -- Full Text version of scholarly article about Simon Bolivar
Citation: www.questia.com; google.scholar
Database: Allows for a number of scholarly texts, usually full versions (questia) that may be accessed for a small membership fee (monthly, quarterly, or yearly). Books and articles both available, almost all from vetted scholarly sources that provide peer reviews as well as a broad scope. One weakness is in dating, typically, questia does not upload the most current (e.g. 12-18 months) articles. However, the search engine is quite powerful, and allows for Boolean searches through books, journals, newspapers, and magazines. The search parameters also allow interesting comparisons to be made between historical topics, like Simon Bolivar, and the current political culture of the region. For example: http://www.questia.com/app/direct/SM.qst#Journal.
