Resume

The purpose of a resume is to enable you to clearly show yourself to the potential employer without your presence. It is meant to clearly indicate who you are and what you can do on paper and still allow the person reading your resume have a clear view of you. This then calls for clarity in writing and ensuring all the relevant details are captured by the resume.

In analyzing the resume by Juan Rodriguez, there are several issues that come up as mistakes that should have been avoided hence making the resume not clear and missing the target that resumes are always meant to meet.

On the career objective, Juan was very vague, too general and his indication of 'any job' was a sign of uncertainty in what he wants to get involved in within the company. He should have narrowed it down to a specific department and job or profession within the department as well as indicate the prospects that he has within that definite job docket.

When it comes to the academic qualifications, Juan does not help the reader know the exact qualifications that he has and even the address of the institutions in the event that the potential employer would love to get more details about Juan should have been included in the resume.

Coming down to the referees, first Juan should have placed the referees at the very end of the resume since they do not involve any dates. Of greater significance is the fact that he did not give the contact details of the referees. Even more important he did not add the positions or qualifications of the referees, yet this is very important as it creates a sense of dependability and trust in the minds of the interviewers about the referees and about you by extension.

In giving his qualifications, Juan omitted some very central features that would add him points in any short listing. First he did not give the address of the organizations he worked for making it impossible for a potential employer to cross-check the details provided with his previous history. Secondly Juan should have included the responsibilities and the details of what these responsibilities included. Thirdly he did not indicate the period and the year that he worked within these organizations yet this is information that should be included.
