¶ … medieval automatons to the first humanoid robot ELEKTRO, from Isaac Asimov's pioneering research to the use of robotic arms in surgery, robotics have been one of the most important areas of applied science throughout history. Robots are being used in almost every industry, allowing the economy to shift towards one that is more service-based and information-oriented. In fact, some recent advancements in robotics shows that artificial intelligence can be combined with the more mundane features of the automaton to create genuinely powerful and intelligent machines that can make decisions and think critically and possibly even creatively. Although it seems like science fiction, robotics remains one of the most important areas of scientific inquiry because these tools have the power to improve medicine and health care, to all types of transportation and communication services, and to advance understanding of the human mind and brain. The historical background of robotics shows that robots have been used considerably in the healthcare field. Robots already have the power to streamline healthcare delivery, reduce medical errors, and improve overall quality of care as well as patient outcomes. There is an abundance of uses for robots in healthcare, and they are already being used in several ways such as surgery and even helping patients to eat (McNickle). Robots have been used in healthcare since the first robotic surgery system was approved in 2000, but newer robots are performing radically different functions such as helping people communicate who otherwise cannot, or helping people like seniors who may be unable to provide...

Robots have also been shown to be as effective as animals in helping elderly people feel better (Shibata and Wada). The future of robotics in healthcare is undoubtedly going to assist healthcare workers like doctors and nurses with every aspect of healthcare delivery from providing accurate diagnoses to performing the latest medical interventions.
It is important to understand the significance of robotics as changing the labor market and transforming the ways people live and work. The worlds of transportation and communication services are being transformed through robotics. Self-driving cars are one of the most promising and important future applications of robotics, and robotic-type algorithms are being used to enhance communications technologies too (Ford). Vehicles already have some robotic components, such as the autopilot functions on commercial aircraft. Given the advancements in robotics that have already taken place, it is easy to envision the application of robotics in multiple fields of product design and engineering. Although as Ford points out, robotics challenge the job market to come up with new roles for human beings, robots do not pose a serious threat to jobs in the long run if people continue to be creative and discover new ways of working alongside robots in every sector.

Because of the ethical conundrums that robots may cause, this area of research is especially important and critical to understand and analyze. One thing is certain: robots are already a part of our daily lives and will become even more entrenched in our society in the near…

Robotics The popular concept of robots has been colored by stories of mythical mechanical beings dating back to antiquity, and fictional robots (remember "R-2 D-2?") depicted in popular science fiction movies such as the Star Wars. Robotics, however, is a serious technology that deals with the design, construction and operation of robots that are used in numerous applications ranging from industries that require accurate and repetitive tasks (such as the car

Robots: The future or elder care?" Heather Kelly begins by considering the situation faced by many people today: They are aging and in increasing need for assitance or at least for companionship. At the same time, people willing to be trained in caring for the elderly are exponentially diminishing in number. The author points out that, by 2050, 16% of the global population will constitute elderly people. To avoid

Future Trends in the Use of Computer Technology in Surgery The rapid levels of innovation occurring in the field of Computer Assisted Surgery (CAS) are leading to significantly greater levels of accuracy, patient care success, and lower costs of outpatient surgery treatment programs for hospitals and care centers. The intent of this paper is to analyze the future direction of CAS and its implications on the quality of healthcare and its

We are also often unaware of the manner in which social forces such as economics, politics, and research professionals shape our technological advances. This is also evidenced in our response to technology that malfunctions; we oftentimes do not seek to understand how to fix it and instead will call in a professional to do so (Bijker, & Law, 1992). This does not make us any more knowledgeable about our

Robotics: How Close Are We to Creating a Bionic Man? While the creation of a 'bionic man' similar to the Six Million Dollar Man of the 70s television series or the gun-slinging robot of Westworld may still be the realm of popular sci-fi, technology has developed to a stage where we are closer to such a possibility than ever before. Some of these technologies include robotics, the development of organic polymers

As a result, it can be said that the workplace of the modern world has changed beyond recognition with the revolution brought by the technological advancements. The technological transformation in the last two decades has been drastic and this trend will continue for the next many decades as robots are increasing replacing jobs that require the engagement of repetitive, customized actions. There are a number of jobs that are at
