Women's Work Inside And Outside The Home

Women are expected to carry out household duties such as cooking, doing laundry, cleaning taking care of the children and so on. I can say that no other work compares to the stress that women have to go through daily in going about doing household chores. The subject of household labor is often seen as dull and is often ignored by even the progressive groups. Paid work always gets recognition since it is real work. Yet the most common, tedious and exhausting work is done for free and is invisible to those that fight against capitalism when it comes to social justice. The tradition that women are supposed to work for free at home and men are working for household wages has now changed. Women who provide all free labor I a capitalist system in which nothing else is free have to stop being so nice, the truth of the matter is 6 that household chores make women tired an therefore the unpaid labor in homes is a way of maintaining the systems of oppression. This is because women are expected to carry out different tasks in the house which are often tiresome and they do not get anything in return (L'Hirondelle, 004).

It is a direct discrimination for men to get more pay as compared to women even if both of them have similar academic qualifications, skills and Legislation requiring equal pay and prohibiting discrimination has failed to bring about equality for women within the workforce. This is because top level managements in organizations often impose rules that are only beneficial to the male gender. Regardless of the rules made by the Equal Opportunity Commission to avoid harassment and discrimination at work their application is quite low in the practical world. These rules are breeched by top-level management who are not keen on problems of female employees who suffer so much due to this biasness. Employees themselves also fear talking about these incidents or make any complaint about these incidences to superiors which ends up building the confidence of the harasser to continue doing such things even more severely next time.

From the look of things, someone with Ehrenreich's background can be able to make it in the low wage world because they will be paid wages that would allow them to have food on the table, a home and even have a car. No she would not have been better off interviewing women that really live those lifestyle because the experience of the low wage living will assist in make better conclusions as opposed to getting answers from others.

Ehrenreich would have a problem of getting and maintaining a well paying job. She would also have a problem in securing cheap and safe accommodation. I do not think she will be successful since it will be quite a challenge for her to adjust into this type of life. Ehrenreich is confirming my expectations for her performance on the job since she is working hard to ensure that she gets the basic needs satisfied. She brings the bias that the working poor could not make it on what they were living on. This affected how she evaluated her experience is since she went with this mentality therefore she was focused on how she would prove that the poor can not survive on their living and hence made no effort to try and make it.
