Running for the President of U.S. Speech
Speech: Running for the President of the United States
America has been through some trials lately, but trials are what make this country stronger. The resiliency of the people through the hard times leads them to higher victories when times are good - and those good times are coming again. Now, my opponents will tell you that we're too far away from those goods times and that, as a nation, we've strayed from our values and beliefs. I'm here today to tell you that those opponents are wrong. I'd go so far as to say that they're poisoning you with untruths, and that they're fabricators of information that isn't accurate or realistic. America is still the great nation she has always been, and we need to work together to keep her moving forward. Facing challenges is part of what helps us to grow, and learn, and prosper. When we do those things together - as a nation and a people, united as one - we are unstoppable. Don't let those naysayers get you down. Don't let them scare you and tell you that all you're going to face when I'm President are problems. Look at the issues. Take time to see what my opponents are really trying to convince you of. You're all intelligent people. Intelligent Americans who can see what's true and what's not - and I'm here to tell you the truth about America and about my bid for the White House.
Traditionally, we've been a nation of doers. Of thinkers. Of people who believe in what's right - like being rewarded for hard work, getting a good education, and putting value and worth on family life. While my opponents may try to twist where I stand on those issues to make themselves look better, I know Americans are smart enough to see through that. What America needs right now isn't more bickering in Washington, or more arguments about who's right and wrong. You don't elect us to fight with one another - you elect us to represent you and your interests, and to help make this country even greater than it already is. There are several ways to do that, and one of those ways is through education. We're falling behind other countries, and we're laying off teachers. We're hurting our kids' chances of keeping up with their peers from other nations - and we can't do that anymore. It has to stop. Look around you, at your children and the children of your friends. They are the future of this country. Don't you want to make sure they're prepared to run it? We have to get our children ready, and we have to leave them a good, strong foundation on which they can build. That can be our legacy - but we have to start now. It's not too late, but it's past time to get moving.
Homes and families are being destroyed by a struggling economy, and it's time for that to change, too. I'm running on a platform of increase - increase in your pockets, not the pockets of the government. Increase in the value of your home, the amount of your paycheck, and the number you see in the refund column on your tax return. It's time to get rid of wasteful government spending, and use taxpayer money the right way. Wisely and carefully, for the good of all Americans. Spending wisely means no tax increases and no cuts to programs that Americans use and need. If you're a senior citizen, you won't see your Medicare benefits or your Social Security check go down. If you're a young person, just starting out, you'll have the chance at a good education and a job when you get out of school. With economic recovery and prosperity comes opportunity - the opportunity to buy your own home, save for retirement, and invest in a stock market that will be stabilizing.
We need to uphold the traditional values on which this country was founded. Values that reflect us at our best, when we all work together as one nation. Why is it only in the aftermath of tragedy that we come together to help our fellow man? Why is it not every day, in small ways, so that there exists the opportunity for fewer tragedies? These are the tough questions. The kinds of questions we should be asking ourselves as individuals and as a nation, every day. What can we do to make things better? What can we do to help someone else? Every day, all around each one of us, opportunity exists to help ourselves and to help others. When we strike a balance between those two kinds of opportunities, we advance as individuals - but we also advance as a nation that sees the value of community. We can do great things together, and I am prepared to lead this country down the path to peace, prosperity, and the strength of which I know it's capable. Together, we can work to make America even better than it was before and better than it has ever been.
