Saving Private Ryan
After seeing Steven Spielberg's movie, "Saving Private Ryan," there's only one thing I have said to myself, that this is definitely a "must see" movie for all. From the beginning to the end, I have seen no movie that could compare to the elements that "Saving Private Ryan" had presented to its viewers.
Steven Spielberg once again achieved his mastery in film making with his presentation of "Saving Private Ryan." It's another one big and true achievement after his previous film masterpiece "Schindler's List."
Saving Private Ryan" is a movie that displays the guts and glory of soldiers who are willing to die for their country. It is a movie that exhibits bravery, passion, and all the realities of war. Even in the very beginning, the film didn't fail to touch a portion of the viewer's heart with the American Flag waving in the wind, a sequence bestowing patriotic sentiments for the loyal soldiers and citizens of the United States of America.
The film achieved its goal of demonstrating what war really means. Each sequence delivered has been as graphic as a real war could show. The fact that the footages of the film's first 25 minutes are too painful and brutal for viewers to endure watching, there's no doubt that "Saving Private Ryan" had established and arouse the senses of its audience in completely feeling the pains of war. The intensity of the emotionally wrenching experience "Saving Private Ryan" brought accounted for the film's success and applause from its audience, one factor that lead to my enthusiasm of nominating this film.
The cinematography of the film sent a relative impact to the film's success. Everything was made visually intelligible. An instance of this is the landing scene on Omaha Beach where chaos was conveyed in action. Each sequence of the attacks, soldiers shooting at one another, bombs blown, were deliberately handled that kept the viewers oriented. The flow of the footages was made comprehensible and logical. Another factor that made me admire and recognize the film as one of the best.
Not to forget, of course, are the actors who portrayed the heroic roles in the movie. Tom Hanks, I believe, has been a good choice for the part of Capt. Miller. He may have experienced a complete tremor of fighting in a war but he did not give up because that is his duty. For the other roles, such as Matt Damon as Private Ryan, Jeremy Davis as the interpreter, and all the others, they have effectively played their part. I commend Steven Spielberg for making the characters deliberately ordinary and not in the trend of the traditional war movies.
To add to the realism of the film, the sound effects had also been effective. All the shootings, bombings, and dialogues sounded as real as possible. The background effects of the war sequences were equally magnificent, just enough and proportionate to what every footage currently projects.
