Applying for Scholarships

There are a number of careers available in the world today, and the majority of them require an advanced degree in college. In order to obtain the proper education and reach their goals, many students find it necessary to apply for a variety of scholarships. This letter concentrates on obtaining scholarships so that I can continue my education in the field of Social Work, as I have a strong desire to work with children and families in urban communities.

In order for me to continue my education, I must receive financial assistance. I am the father of four children, three of which are newborn triplets, and am the sole supporter of my family. My wife is currently unable to work due to our recent additions, but continues to provide emotional support in my educational endeavors.

My interest in helping others is rooted in my childhood, where as one of ten children, I found myself providing emotional and physical support to anyone who needed it. I have already established a firm foundation in Social Work by working in the field for over six years. While this is many times an overlooked and underappreciated career, I can think of no other profession in which one can receive the gratification of knowing they have assisted children and families during difficult and often stressful situations. I constantly strive to make a difference in people's lives and give them the encouragement needed to succeed with their goals. Along with my duties in Social Work, I have worked in a homeless shelter where I assisted families with the difficult task of finding affordable housing and becoming productive members of society.

Reaching My Goals

My goal is to become the type of Social Worker who not only helps others, but makes a real difference in their lives. In order to do this I must continue my education, taking classes which will assist me in gaining a better understanding of how individuals reaction in a variety of social, cultural and ethnic environments. In order to achieve this goal, I find it is imperative that I receive a scholarship, and look forward to hearing from the governing committee.
