¶ … sculpture "Human" by Robert Cole. Specifically it will critique the sculpture. Cole's work is modern art in large format, and this sculpture is no exception. It is created out of stainless steel, stands 9-feet tall, and is imposing and beautiful at the same time.
I think this artwork is modern, and can be loved by all ages. It looks like part of a man viewed from one angle, but from another angle, it looks like a guitar, which shows that everything (and everyone) are not exactly what they seem. Cole also uses free form abstract shapes in the sculpture that makes the artwork look more open and appealing. This shows that as humans, we should have nothing to hide, but of course, we always do. Cole's "Human" has nothing to hide, inside or out, but it is still complex and many-faceted.
A also like where the statue stands. In the spring and summer, the planter below the sculpture is filled with flowers, which makes it seem as if the statue is standing in a meadow or a field of wildflowers, which gives it a wild and outdoorsy quality. The way the sculptor created shapes inside the shape itself make the light on the sculpture change and alter throughout the day, casting shadows here and there in random patterns. It makes the sculpture more interesting and effective, I think.
It is also interesting that the statue does not have any arms. In this, it is like the ancient statue of Venus, that is missing its arms, and that ties the old and the new together in this work. It is interesting to see how other people create art and what shapes and colors they see in their art, and this piece is interesting, 3-dimensional, and very representative of Robert Cole's modern art vision. I like this piece, and would like to see more of Cole's work in the future, up close and personal.

While Williams writes of the "tingling" of the new year, the "tingling" is not merely natural, not simply the world sprouting into rebirth. It is a very human, manufactured kind of celebration of the world's bounty. Thus to read the painting as a kind of a mockery of Icarus and the artist's desire for transcendence may not be entirely fair. Brueghel, after all could have just shown Icarus falling into
Staircase ramps which are comprised of steep and narrow steps that lead up one face of the pyramid were more in use at that time with evidence found at the Sinki, Meidum, Giza, Abu Ghurob, and Lisht pyramids respectively (Heizer). The thesis of this paper is that the history of the Roman Empire can be matched to that of the United States in terms of economy, political power, as well as aspirations. In this sense, present day America is very similar to fourth of even fifth century Rome; this poses one stringent
