¶ … SENATOR BARACK OBAMA SHOULD BE the NEXT U.S. PRESIDENT

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

Never has an election year been as diverse as is the present election year and never have the candidates been as progressive as in the present election when an individual who has a Muslim background is running for President and at that during a time when the United States is in the middle of a war with a Muslim country. Also stated in the arguments which take a stance against Barack Obama being elected as the next President of the United States is simply the similarity between the names 'Barack Hussein Obama' and "Osama Bin Laden" and "Saddam Hussein." Thereto, is the fact that a discrepancy exists in whether Barack Obama is actually a natural-born U.S. citizen or not. The fact is, that Barack Obama has given a hungry U.S. citizenry a different flavor of politics indeed, a breath of fresh air if you will for the coming of age voting populace in the United States.

THE TASTE of 'NEW'

Likely, the best thing about the flavor of politics that Barack Obama serves up to the American public is the taste of 'new'. Yes, Barack Obama seems a little 'wet-behind-the-ears' so to speak but Barack Obama has an appeal that appears to be based upon his genuine appeal to the American public for change from the old status quo to a new undefined yet 'something different' which is desired greatly after the last eight years of the Bush Administration. In fact, it seems that a great part of Barack Obama's appeal is the very fact that he is indeed a Muslim. Perhaps supporting Barack Obama for the next U.S. President is young America's way of saying 'out' with the hating on other countries, religions, ethnicities and races and 'in' with diversity as the norm throughout the United States in what is now a highly globalized and diverse society.

II. TALK to the MULLAHS

The work of James Lewis (2008) entitled: "President Obama and Nuclear Iran" sarcastically and comically addresses a worse-case scenario stating:

Assume for a moment: It's January, 2009, and Barack Obama has just been inaugurated as President of the United States. Ahmadi-Nejad explodes his first Bomb; he now has that itchy finger on the button as long as the mullahs stay in power. The Middle East goes wild - with abject fear among the Saudis, and loud celebrations among terror supporters. The day of revenge against the Jews and the Crusaders has finally arrived. What would President Obama do?" (2008)

Lewis states that two options exist:

1) Stick with his electoral promises, fly to Tehran, and "talk to the mullahs? Or 2) Flip the bird to your lifelong friends on the Left and reverse all their foreign policy ideas. Send several battle groups within striking distance of Tehran. Beef up our forces next door, in Iraq, the Gulf and Afghanistan. Get serious with the Russians to pull their engineers out of Iranian nuclear plants. Block North Korean help for a'jad's Bomb. Stop German companies like Siemens from selling advanced electronic gear to the mullahs. Turn Syria around, to isolate Iran's proxy armies in Lebanon and Gaza. Mount more state-of-the-art missile defenses on Aegis war ships - we have 82 of them, a formidable world-wide missile defense if we ever decide to use them. Finally, build up U.S. troop numbers." (Lewis, 2008)

Granted, this is a worse case scenario and one that is somewhat comically described by Lewis but this work will seriously consider the implications of this scenario. Of course, it is after -- the fact to state a prediction of the course that would have been chosen by the present administration, which incidentally Lewis refers to as the George W. Bush strategy in his work. This option, has not paid dividends and in fact, in terms of lives lost, money lavishly spent and all of this at the expense of citizens in the United States who have lost fathers, sons, brother, uncles, etc. And added to this Hurricane Katrina victims whom, it is certain would have fared much better at the hands of our devoted troops instead of at the mercy of the hired security forces of Blackwater. Indeed, it would appear that Barack Obama has a much better potentiality for entering negotiations and peace talks with the Muslim countries than do those whom have expressed adherence to the strategy of the Bush Administration in its handling of Iraq.

III. VOTING for MCCAIN IS ALMOST LIKE VOTING for GEORGE W. BUSH

Why would one consider voting for John McCain to be almost like voting for George W. Bush? It is more than simply a same-party ticket connection; indeed, it goes much deeper and speaks of McCain's support for the ongoing onslaught on the small country of Iraq. For example, the work of Bob Cesca (2007) entitled: "Barack Obama for President" states:

From the very beginning -- back when our torture chambers still had that new torture chamber smell; and before our chief executive's incompetence exploded like an M80 inside the clenched-fist of the world -- George W. Bush has been an embarrassment. We know his disgraceful deeds and policies. But it's his utter lack of quality; his unsubstantial presence; his marble-mouthed oratorical retardation; his inability to inspire greatness; and his empty-suit absence of intellectual curiosity which preordained him to be the worst President of the United States in modern history." (Cesca, 2007)

The problem with John McCain is that he has stood by the side of George W. Bush in what has been the most frontal assault against human rights and indeed this includes American citizen's human rights as well, that has occurred in U.S. history to date. The invasion and abject abuse of human rights that is presently ongoing in the United States and most certainly in the country of Iraq far surpasses the human rights and civil rights violations prior to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. The U.S. Patriot Act is unsurpassed in its legislation of violation of human and civil rights laws and utter dejection of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights principles.

III. WHY CHOOSE SENATOR BARACK OBAMA for PRESIDENT

Why then does this work state support for Barack Obama for the next U.S. President? The answer is very eloquently stated by Cesca (2007) who states: "Senator Obama's intelligence, passion and quality of character can inspire us to recapture our own potential for greatness. And after all these years of darkness, there is no alternative other than to correct our trajectory with someone who can elevate our common goals -- the American Dream. For the American Dream to survive, this era demands a new president who will include all of us in the debate over our future, whether or not we agree on every issue." In fact, Cesca states that he sees Barack Obama as "an historic character who fits within" what he envisions as his "...idealistic template for presidency..." (Cesca, 2007)
