Sensory Perceptions Three Reasons for Believing in the Accuracy or Inaccuracy of Sensory Information Sensory perception can be defined as the process of receipt of stimuli and then their organization and interpretation by using the five senses for making the meaning of one's surrounding environment. In other words, it is the process by which a person acquires an understanding of his/her environment (Kemp, Hollywood & Hort 2009). Thus, by employing sensory perceptions, every living thing understands its immediate surrounding through sensory information analysis for survival.

The first reason to believe in the accuracy of sensory information is that when a hot object is touched, the sense of feeling sends instant messages to the brain due to which the body part that touches the object gets removed and is saved from getting burned. The second reason to trust the accuracy of the sensory information is that the sense of smell helps in knowing the potential danger. When one smells smoke, he/she immediately senses that there is a fire or something blazing.

Thirdly, the sense of sight helps in providing accurate information about the exterior environment. When a person looks at something, it actually means that he/she is witnessing the outer world with his/her eye. When one sees moon during night, it actually means that the moon is there. On the other hand, reasons can be given for the inaccuracy of the sensory information. The past experiences of a person can have an effect on his/her perception of sensory information.

For instance, if a boy and girl are conversing with each other, they are actually talking. However, if the person is not comfortable in his/her relationship and they see their boyfriend/girlfriend talking to the opposite sex, the onlooker can jump to wrong conclusions. Secondly, the environmental influences may possibly deform one's data interpretation even if the sensory organs are accurately functioning.

For example, if a person looks down a street and not see anybody thinking that it is not dangerous to walk down it, he/she can be harmed by someone hiding behind a tree or any other object. Thirdly, it is not always necessary that a person correctly interprets sensory data no matter what sensory organ he/she uses. This is the utmost reason why one cannot depend on the sensory information all the time.

Factors Contributing to the Accuracy of Sensory Information It is important to put emphasis on factors that do not result to dysfunction but n those that facilitate in the process of thought-organization and helps in motivating the behavior. Sensation is, thus, the first factor that contributes to the accuracy of sensation. To tell the truth, a person's sensory organs provide him/her with pure sensation sensed by the body directly in critical conditions due to which he/she becomes attentive and responsive (Deck, 1998).

In other words, it means that the neurons in one's nervous system play a very vital role in the determination of feeling which in response contributes to the accurateness of sensory data. The second factor that contributes to the correctness of sensory information is the perception of a specified sensation (Kemp, Hollywood & Hort 2009). As interpretation occurs in various contexts, this is the reason why human beings are capable enough to settle in unlike environments based on how protected those environments are perceived for survival.
