Social Interaction The concept of social interaction can be defined as the acts, practices or the actions of two or more people mutually oriented towards each other. It is the behaviors that try to cater for or accommodate the subjective experiences or intentions of the other person (Rumel R.J., 1976). This then means that the people involved in the social interaction have to be aware of each other as well as have the ego of the other person in their minds.

It may not necessarily mean that they have to be seeing each other one on one at the moment but they must be considering each other's position in their minds while making decisions. It is worth noting that two fiends mailing each other are socially interacting just as much ac two army camp leaders planning opposing wars. Social interaction is not in any way predetermined by the physical relation or contiguity that there is between the two parties nor the physical relation.

It is dictated by the mutual subjective orientation towards each other; hence even though no physical interaction may e involved, there still can be social interaction. Social interaction also needs mutual orientation of the parties involved for it to be considered a successful interaction. If one of the parties involved in the interaction is not aware of the interaction, then it cannot be considered to a successful social interaction.

One instance that falls under this category is the aspect of one person or party spying on the other cannot be categorized as a social interaction since the other party is not aware of the interaction taking place. The interaction between a rapist and the victim cannot also be categorized as social interaction since the victim here is treated like an object, nor the interaction between a guard and a prisoner who is being tortured.

In general, any situation where one party to the interaction is treated ad an object cannot then be considered as a social interaction. The same case applies where the involved parties treat each other as inanimate being, animals, reflex machines or a situation that has a cause effect procedure. Social interaction is therefore beneficial in many aspects as the people involved can benefit from the interaction and is applicable in many aspects such as school (especially of people with disabilities), at home and several other social settings.

Children with disability can be made to feel part of the class through social interaction. This can make them know that even though they may seem different outside, they still share the interest, pleasures, concerns and the challenges of life. It is also through social interaction that children with disabilities can have true acceptance, appreciation and friendships that are developed between the children with disabilities and those without the disabilities.

Effective social interaction has been noted to be key to effective learning particularly among the young learners and children with disability. The people falling under this category have a lot to learn from each other and the society at large hence there is need to inculcate the culture of social interaction among them to ensure they get the maximum out of the environments that they are exposed to.

It is worth noting that social interaction does not happen on physics aspect only or written aspect as noted above but there is non-verbal social interaction as well. Our actions and body language can invite a positive social interaction or not. There are several occasions that Americans have been thought to be cold people due to the personal distance they like to keep.
