While people were accustomed to a traditional view of marriage, they gradually came to accept that it can actually be interpreted in order to incorporate a series of other values. For example, same-sex marriage demonstrated that two people can get married regardless of their gender.
While it is difficult and almost impossible to predict how marriage is going to be in the future, it is very likely that it will become more complex and that it will never return to how it once was. The future of marriage is going to be altered by a series of factors such as women's economic independence. Society will focus on designing marriage in accordance to trends, thus meaning that people are going to change their perspective on marriage depending on how they understand other matters.

Marriage in the contemporary society represents a means for people to make their relationships official. Being a couple can be a passing concept, but being married means more and it means that an individual should be entitled to a series of rights that normal couples are unable to access. Marriage should not necessarily be destroyed, as society simply needs to accept that it is a formality and that it represents a union between two persons who want to take their relationship one step further by making it official.
