Sport/Wellness Organizational Policy Statements

Policy development in a sporting or recreational institution is a process that focuses on guiding the activities of the relevant individuals in relation to fitness and wellness. In most cases, sports or wellness policies are usually included in a central statement that helps in governing the actions of the people involved. Policy statements for sport/wellness organizations usually cover different topics including doping, financial management, and crowd control. HIGH5 Sports Nutrition and WWE are examples of sport/wellness organizations that have established policies on doping.

WWE's policy on doping states that, "The "non-medical use" and associated abuse of prescription medications and performance enhancing drugs, as well as the use, possession and/or distribution of illegal drugs, by WWE Talent are unacceptable and prohibited by this Policy, as is the use of masking agents or diuretics taken to conceal or obscure the use of prohibited drugs" (World Wrestling Entertainment, 2013). On the other hand, HIGH5 Sports Nutrition policy states that, "We have implemented and maintain our own quality assurance and stringently audited compliance programme that ensures the consistency of high quality products to avoid the risk of inadvertent doping" (HIGH5 Sports Nutrition, n.d.).

These two policies have some similarities and differences with regards to dealing with doping. One of the similarities is that they doping policies are based on guidelines by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). WWE prohibits its athletes from using performance enhancement drugs and other substances that are banned by WADA while HIGH5 Sports Nutrition ensures that its products do not include ingredients from WADA's list of banned substances. Secondly, the organizations conduct testing in order to ensure compliance with doping policy. In this case, WWE carries out specimen testing at Aegis whereas HIGH5 tests all its products at LGC Limited on a regular basis.
