¶ … passion for chemistry and the way chemical compounds interact have aroused in early childhood with the simple questions as to why does the baking soda make the cake grow or why does the milk go sour. In time, the complexity of these dilemmas increased significantly and I began to launch several quests in order to find answers to my questions. I did not always succeed with my first trial, but I kept on going until I found what I was looking for. You may ask yourself as to the reasons which determined me to commence my statement of purpose with this specification. The answer is a simple one: I wanted to reveal to you that I am committed to chemistry and the achievement of my professional goals. Consequently, this will mean that I will work hard to learn and take the most advantage of the opportunity I could be given. I will strive to increase my performances and I will benefit the university in that I will represent a worthy student, appreciative of the disciplines and the professors, and in time, I might even make a significant contribution to the field of chemistry, which will further improve the university's reputation.

As a historical background on my education, I would mention that I graduated from the Spellman College in 2004, with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. I then continued my studies at the Johns Hopkins University and received a Masters' Degree in Science and Environmental Engineering, with a specialization in Environmental Chemistry. Also, I have studied abroad at the Chubu University in Kasugai, Japan.

In terms of professional occupations, I began by doing wet chemistry testing at Shire Pharmaceutical. In order to perfect my skills and acquire more knowledge, I took a position at SAIC. I was a member of the agent chemistry team at Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC). My horizons significantly expanded while on this job and with the aid of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry experience, my areas of research and development base work increased exponentially. Finally, the jobs took me to the Northrop Grumman, where I came to perform next generation testing and method development. Given the continuous opportunities to learn more and with the current access to vast instrumentation, ranging from vapor delivery systems to DART-MS, I became further intrigued by the benefits of research. Consequently, I reached the conclusion that I am in the best position in my life to start the courses of a PhD program.

The PhD program would allow me to dedicate more time and intense efforts to researching and even trying to find solution to the security issues facing our nation. To better explain, the terrorist attacks of September 11, combined with a multifaceted array of international issues, such as the conflicts in the Middle East, have revealed a growing demand for heightened chemical security which would better serve the security of the U.S. civilians as well as the U.S. military. The superior chemical defense of our nation would be achieved through the development of high tech equipments at airports, cargo terminals and post offices.
