Jurgis was determined to have Ona as the wife even if it meant going through the extensive difficulties that they were already facing. They banked on nothing more than the love between them and the hopes within them. They had to make quick plans to have maters rolling in terms of logistics of taking the dowry to the parents and the maiden visit to the home of Ona to have the matters officiated and finalized. It was not going to be an easy task since the odds against them were a lot.

The fact that they had bought a home for themselves was an indication of the optimism that was a binding factor and now they had to pull in the same direction in order to have the entire deal fall together. Jurgis chose to use the energy that was exhibited by the dancers in the previous night wakes that they had already experienced. It was suggested by a council of elders that in order to assist the young man achieve his dreams various presents were to be brought to the next dance competition with most going towards the dowry collection and a small token for the winning dancer.
