Last reviewed: October 29, 2006 ~6 min read

¶ … vision statement and a mission statement. The writer provides enough information in each element to illustrate the differences between the two and to show the reader what each one needs to consist of to be effective. The writer used an already developed company called SDI (which manufactures the Solar Feeder) to compose the statements. There was one source used to complete this paper.

VISION

When parents have children and they consider their future as adults they have a definite vision about what they believe that child will become. Will he be happy? Will he choose a career that he is passionate about? Will he be content with his choices in life and learn from his mistakes along the way? These are all questions that parents have and they try to answer with the vision they have of their child's growing years. In much the same way that parents worry and envision their children's future, business owners envision the future of their companies.

When a company begins to grow the owners often realize that the time has come to create a vision for the future that illustrates the direction they wish the company to take in endeavors and ideas. The vision provides guidance in what the owners believe and want for the company.

For the Solar Feeder Company (SDI) a vision statement will help the company owners clearly define what they wish for the future.

A sample vision statement for the Solar Feeder would include the following:

The vision of SDI believes that a budget conscious product can still be environmentally safe and friendly. The vision of SDI includes the projection of developing three additional products by 2008 to include both higher end and lower end finished product costs.

The expected outcome of the company vision is to have an 85% increase in sales revenue by the end if 2008 with almost equal increases for each year leading up to that year as products are added to the inventory and catalog for purchase.

The vision of increased sales will be met with the following plan:

25% budget increase for advertising

Additional hiring of sales reps to saturate the area's market with personal calls, visits and appearances at trade shows.

The re-evaluation of inventory control and the search for the most cost effective suppliers that we can find

The vision of SDI includes the belief that environmentally sound products are the responsibility of all socially conscious businesses to develop so that the future generations in the world will not have to clean up the mess left by greed driven manufacturers. SDI's vision incorporates the personal belief of the importance that we illustrate and represent environmental consciousness as well as encourage our suppliers to do so by ordering only the most environmentally sound products from them to use in our products.

The vision of SDI includes a chronological timeline for the next five years to include the following:

2007 Have one of the three new products designed, developed and on the market

2008 have the next two new products designed, developed and on the market

2007 Have three additional sales representatives working with the company

2007 Have the nation divided into six regions and assign each sales representative a region to cover and be responsible for 2007 Increase advertising by 25%

2007 Increase sales revenue by $500,000

2008 Increase sales revenue by an additional 500,000

2009 Help develop legislation that will include mandates to company's to use environmentally sound products in the manufacturing of their products

Expand manufacturing facility by fifty percent within the next three years and increase the manpower with new hires within the same time frame

The vision of SDI is of course to produce a profit, however, in addition to the bottom line our goal is to participate in and encourage a trend in environmental social consciousness for businesses that manufacture products that will impact the environment.

This vision will use the strategies and abilities of every department within the company as it grows. Each person who works for SDI will be expected to understand and agree with the philosophies and visions of the company.

The vision for success for SDI promotes planning, organization and clear conscious decision making as the company moves forward for the next few years.

MISSION STATEMENT
