The ultra masculine sex roles that are imposed on the female inmates can be said to be generally imposed by the superintendents in charge of the prisons.

The special management inmates are those inmates who have some special need medically and the condition is rare among the inmates or an inmate who has outstanding discipline issues that need to be handled at the individual level. There is nee to know how to handle these kinds of inmates and the care that needs to be taken not to deprive them of basic rights. There is also need to have a balance that will ensure the other inmates are not interfered with in any way due to the special management inmate.
