¶ … supervisory procedures for mental health professionals. To do this we are examining the different approaches and the impact that they will have on patients. Once this occurs, is when we can see how this is influencing our personal management philosophy.

Over the last several years, the supervision procedures of different counseling practices have been increasingly brought to the forefront. Part of the reason for this, is because there are a variety of different theories about how to effectively deal with these kinds of issues. Evidence of this can be seen with observations from Brown (2008) who wrote, "It has been our experience that the principals underlying effective supervision are very basic. However, as time has went by they have become more advance to deal with the changing needs of clients and practitioners." (Brown, 2008, pg. xiv) This is important, because it is showing how the role over supervisor has been continually evolving.

In the case of the subjects that we are examining, requires focusing on how these changes will affect the way they are interacting with clients. To determine this we will examine a numbers of different factors to include: the theory / practice / function, the models of clinical supervision, characteristics of a good clinical supervisor, what it takes to be effective and assessing the interviewed supervisor. These different elements are important, because they will identify how the practice has been changing and what tactics are most effective in reaching out to patients. Once this occurs, is when we will be able to see that impact that this is having on the practice of mental health professionals over the long-term.

Evaluate the purposes of clinical supervision as you envision your future role as a supervisor

The basic purpose of clinical supervision is to be able to effectively determine how the different theories and techniques are having an effect on mental health professionals. As we are focusing on how this will impact their views and the way that they are interacting with everyone. The way that this is accomplished is when the auctioneer will meet regularly with other psychologists. In most cases, this is when you are discussing various ideas with other colleagues about to deal with a host of challenges when working with patients. At the same time, there could also be a focus on reaching out to those individual who are more experienced that will play a supervisory role in monitoring the activities of psychologists. ("Clinical Supervision," 2009)

Moreover, everyone must be able to use greater amounts of flexibility in the process. The reason why, is because other colleagues as well as supervisors will become critical of these events and what is happening. When this takes place, it is imperative to remember that mental health professionals must be able to adjust their tactics to deal with a host of challenges. If this kind of approach can be taken, it will ensure that each person will be able to deal with the various issues. This is when there will be a transformation in how they are addressing these problems.

These different elements are important, because they are illustrating how this is impacting the way that a host of tactics are being applied. As a result, in the future we will use these tools to effectively improve communication between various mental health professional and supervisors. Once this occurs, is when there will be more understanding about how to deal with these kinds of situations. This is the point that we will be able to effectively reach out to everyone and address the various challenges associated with numerous conditions / disorders that they will encounter. This is when they can understand how to deal with issues and what techniques can be utilized to improve the underlying health of patients.

Evaluate theoretical frameworks and models of clinical supervision and synthesize these with your personal philosophy of supervision.

There are several basic models that are used as a part of clinical supervision. These include: the Stoltenberg / Delworth, the Functions Approach, the Key Issues, and Therapy Specific. The Model of Stollenberg and Delworth is when you are concentrating on the various characteristics of motivation, self-worth and maturity. In general, there is a focus on all of the various levels inside the psycho analysis process to include: Level 1 (child development), Level 2 (adolescent), Level 3 (early adulthood) and Level 4 (maturity). This is establishing a basic foundation for understanding how to effectively supervise. (Bernard & Goodyear, 2009)

As a result, under this approach there are specific techniques that are used to illustrate the various issues that an individual is dealing with to include: self-centered (i.e. Level 1), the client centered approach (Level 2), the process centered (Level 3) and the process in context centered (Level 4). This is in line with my personal philosophy, in that we are focusing on how to monitor and understand the way these issues will impact the how mental health professionals are interacting with patients. (Bernard & Goodyear, 2009)

The Functions Model is when there is effective supervision, support, and education of various psychologists. This basic approach is in line with my personal philosophy, because it is helping everyone to understand what issues are impacting the way a counselor is interacting with patients. Once this occurs, is when you will know how these issues will affect the kind of treatment options that are provided to them. (Campbell, 2006)

The Key Issues approach is when you are focusing on the underlying amounts of professional ethics, damage inflicted, skills, transference, counter transference, the basic framework, personal / developmental issues, treatment / goals and the assessment. These different elements are important, because they are showing how there are multiple techniques for effectively evaluating the way that someone is interacting with patients and supervisors. As a result, this is in line with my personal philosophy because we are focusing on a number of different areas that will have an effect on the patient and the mental health professional. (Bernard & Goodyear, 2009)

The Therapy Specific Model is when you are carefully examining: the process, structure and tactics that are being utilized to appear like those tactics that are used during actual therapy sessions. These different elements are important, because they are showing how this basic approach will help mental health professionals to focus on different treatment options to include: cognitive, gestalt and psychodynamic approaches. This is in line with my personal philosophy, as we are using various kinds of approaches to have an impact on the treatments options patients are receiving. (Bernard & Goodyear, 2009)

When you step back and analyze my personal philosophy, it is clear that it is having an impact upon how we are able to work with patients, colleagues and supervisors. The way that this is accomplished is through conducting a detailed analysis of these events and the underlying meanings that are associated with them. This is the point that we could have a dramatic impact on how we are supervising the patient and the types of therapy that are available. Once this occurs, is when we will be more effective in dealing with a host of conditions and the underlying challenges surrounding them.

Differentiate the roles and relationships related to your future as a clinical supervisor.

In the future, there are many different roles that will be utilized as a part of being a clinical supervisor. The way that this will be accomplished is with everyone focusing on the relationship itself. This means that there must be elements of trust, respect and support for the various ideas that are talked about during different kinds of sessions. The reason why, is because we are concentrating on how everyone will be able to deal with these challenges and the impact that they are having on the patient. This is important, because it is showing how establishing strong relationships with the client will allow us to be able to effectively work with them in dealing with a host of challenges.

At the same time, there is the relationship between the supervisor and supervisee. This based upon mutual respect, understanding and professionalism. As everyone, is objectively discussing a host of issues and the impact that they are having on how the mental health professional is reaching out to patients. During this process is when there is change in dealing with these kinds of issues. As the supervisor and supervisee, are objectively looking at what is happening. They will then examine the various techniques and if there are any kind of changes that need to be made.

These different elements are important, because they are showing how we are focused on finding the most appropriate strategies for working with clients. We then concentrate our approach on a host of issues and the impact that they are having on the relationship between supervisor and supervisee. Once this occurs, is when various tactics can be used that will have an effect on what kinds of tools are utilized in dealing with the patient and effectively working with other psychologists. This is when there will be a focused approach that is seeking out the best tools for addressing a host of issues.
